Well the Spring Term has certainly flown as no doubt the Easter Holidays will too!
We hope that you will enjoy looking at just a little of what we have been up to this term and some of the wonderful progress the children have made.
Within this newsletter, you will find diary dates, information about Dads to Lunch, an update on the FOSPS fundraising, Easter holiday activities, menus and a link to book clubs for the summer term.
Have a lovely Easter and we look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 8th April.
Easter Egg Hunt
We have had a great time this morning on our Egg hunt!
Our Learning
Pearls
The Pearls children have had a busy term. We are very impressed with how the children’s learning is improving and how they have been working on zipping up coats and dressing for some of the cold winter’s days.
Last week our focus was air travel, we read ‘Percy’s Bumpy Ride’ and ‘Room on the Broom’. Based on the stories we wrote words and sentences about where we would like to travel to, and we made lists of clothing and toys we would like to take with us on a journey. In our small world area, we have enjoyed our space theme and playing with the Spaceship. We have also been folding paper aeroplanes and finding out which will go the furthest. In maths lessons we have been learning about 2D shapes and using them to make repeating patterns, we have also been learning about the properties of 3D shapes.
This week our focus has been on Easter and Spring. We have been learning about the meaning of Easter and the associated customs. In our provision we have been making Easter cards, decorating play dough Easter eggs, using magnets to find the eggs hidden in the shredded paper and making Easter lists on our writing table. We have also been finding Easter eggs in our outside area and looking for signs of spring.
Have a lovely Easter and we shall look forward to seeing you all after the holidays when our new theme will be 'Nature Detectives'.
Rubies
What an amazing term Rubies have had! We’ve celebrated many calendar events over this term. Wearing our pjs on World Book Day and going green for Cerebral Palsy Day. One of our Rubies shared her personal experience on Cerebral Palsy Day and created a wonderful PowerPoint speaking with the entire school about what Cerebral Palsy means to her and the effect it has on her family. Well done to you!
Rubies have had an extremely busy term learning lots of exciting and challenging things.
We’ve become scientists and learnt about plants which has included carrying out experiments about what they need to grow healthy. Each child planted their own broad bean seeds and have been keeping a plant diary tracking their progress - these will be coming home with them at Easter, along with their plant diary. Don’t forget what a plant needs to stay healthy!
In Art, the children learnt all about primary and secondary colours, tone and shade. We’ve learnt about the artist Andy Warhol and his work on Toys. His work has inspired us to create a representation of his work on Toys we have concentrated on over the term.
As part of our Toys theme this term, we tried to master the art of sewing. We’ve practiced our sewing skills, which has proven to be quite challenging. We are working towards creating a hand puppet. Look out for updates on our progress in the upcoming newsletters!
Rubies have enjoyed their RE sessions over the term, learning about the Easter story. We’ve crafted stain glass window crosses and Palm crosses. Rubies have been taste testers during RE for the varieties of hot cross buns available - we can definitely say this activity was a hit!
We hope Rubies have a fabulous Easter and that Easter Bunny visits. Get plenty of rest and be ready for another fun packed challenging term.
Diamonds
Next for Diamonds class, the amazing Anglo-Saxons!
During intervention time in Diamonds, we have began looking at our own growth mindset and how this can affect our learning journey. The children have really enjoyed reflecting upon their own learning and have grown in confidence as a result. Using statements such as “I am getting better at reading” and “Sometimes I want to give up but I don’t, I want to challenge myself”. In English we are revisiting homophones, there, their and they’re and your and you’re. The children are working super hard to understand these concepts and are beginning to use them correctly within pieces of written text
Sapphires
What a wonderful Spring term. There have been some exciting highlights including Red Nose Day, World Book Day, lunch with grandparents and mums, Easter egg hunt and Easter Bingo!
These last two weeks have been jam-packed. The Sapphires have enjoyed a visit from a drama company to learn about Healthy Lifestyles and got the opportunity to create their own dramas.
The play leaders were able to attend the cinema as a treat for all their led sessions during play times and lunch times. The Sapphires team are very proud of all the children this half term as so many of the children have made it to Gold Reading reward which gave them the opportunity to make their own pizzas. Well done Sapphires, hopefully in the summer all of the children will gain gold.
During Guided Reading, the children have studied Theseus and the Minotaur and performed a poem retelling the story. As part of our writing unit on Francis, the Sapphires enjoyed pretending to be journalists and have drafted out newspaper reports. They have included parenthesis and the subjunctive form within their writing. It’s always such a difficult choice for Writer of the Week- the children are all working so hard!
In Science, the Sapphires have made a spectrum and investigated this. They labelled the parts of the eye and wrote about their definitions. The children were able to compare our settlement to the South Aegean region in Geography and compared physical and human features about both areas. In Jigsaw we have discussed the important topic of body image and discussed how everyone needs to feel positive about themselves. On the final afternoon before Easter, the children have loved decorating their own egg – an ‘eggcellent’ end to the half term.
Thank you to Mrs Beadle for taking the children on Monday afternoons for some outdoor learning. All the children absolutely relish this opportunity.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out at Easter Bingo – it was an amazing and fun event. We look forward to hearing about the next FOSPS event.
Finally from the three of us in the Sapphires team, we would like to wish you a wonderful Easter break and we will see you back in school on Monday 8th April.

Nursery and EYFS Information
Lunches in Pearls after Easter
After Easter we will be changing our approach to lunches in Pearls so that they can have the hall to themselves and the playground meaning they have more space to explore. This quieter time will mean we can also support them further with developing their early skills both inside the dining hall and when playing.
Lunches for Pearls will now be 11:30 - 12:30 other than on special event days such as Parents to Lunch.
Have your say
All responses can be anonymous so please let us know your thoughts. If you would prefer a paper copy then these are available already printed at the main entrance.
We are just commencing a project to further improve our Little Pearls provision and the Pearls including the outdoor area which we cannot wait to share when completed.
Little Pearls Nursery
We would love it if you could share our nursery advert as widely as possible and the easiest way to do this is liking our Facebook page and inviting your friends to this. You can also follow the nursery on Instagram.
At a time when we have seen local schools closing their nursery we want to ensure the long-term future of ours by ensuring that numbers remain consistent so that we can also keep costs low to you.
Thank you for your support.
Book Clubs Here
Free Summer 1 Clubs
Summer 1 clubs can be booked now for after Easter.
Please can I remind parents that if a child misses a club twice and is not ill or at a medical appointment they will be removed from the list. This is to ensure that staff know where children are at all times and to avoid the office chasing up whether children are attending clubs or not. Thank you.
There is also a Wednesday after school gardening club which can be booked separately via email.
Events
Reading Reward
The children loved their reading reward treats on Thursday and it was great to see so many of them achieving Gold.
Reading reward numbers needed for next half-term:
Bronze - 18 reads
Silver - 24 reads
Gold - 36 reads
Thank you - FOSPS Easter Bingo
A huge thank you to all who supported the event either by attending the evening, donating or buying raffle tickets. A massive well done to the FOSPS ladies for a great first event and raising a whopping £788!
The group are already considering future events and would welcome anyone who wants to get involved. If you would like to join the group or find out more please let us know via the school office.
Thank you - Red Nose Day donations to a local cause
Thank you so much for the support you showed on Red Nose Day in supporting the local food banks. The School Council wanted to make a difference locally this year and just look at all the food it has meant we could donate.
Thank you!
