OHVA High School Updates

9/12/16

OHVA High SchoolUpdates9/12/16

Think About It

I want to keep things really simple this week. Remember that our students and families will take on the feelings and attitudes that you as teachers and staff present to them. It is our job to present a solution oriented, positive environment for our students and families. My challenge to you is every time you have a tough situation with a student or family, start your conversation with this statement, " I understand what you are saying and I want to do what is best for your student so they can be successful at OHVA. Let's work together to find a solution that keeps your student's success as the focus." I know... that can be really hard statement but 95% of the time it changes the tone and outcome of the conversation.

What You Need to Know

HS Team Meeting @12pm – We will be going over some course/gradebook set up items.

NHS Peer Tutoring - see attached slide to use for your classrooms!

  • Friday's at 3PM starting on September 16th
  • Questions you can contact Amy Gilles NHS Advisor

Teacher Emails

  • After 9/15 school staff will be redirected to go through their ops manager to submit email issues. Please contact dzawisza@k12.com if you are still having email problems.
  • When a learning coach replies to a message sent from the mail communicator widget (in the OLS/TV), the message appears to be sent from a generic sender.

Cohort 3

  • It looks like there was a big jump in enrollment for C3. Please know that there may be a few C3 students starting on Tuesday as there were a lot to approve last minute.
  • As you plan, be prepared for a similar size Cohort 4.

FAST Updates

· Referrals –

o All referrals must be posted by the HR teacher (K-8) or the Advisor/FASL (HS). If you have a student you are concerned about, please be sure to talk with the advisor to ensure the student is referred appropriately.

· Withdrawals –

o ALL withdrawals (Voluntary and Truancy) must be posted on SP by the advisor/FASL – Teacher withdrawal form. No withdrawals will be processed unless there is a form posted in SP. If you have a student who should have been withdrawn, please be sure the advisor is aware and has posted the referral/withdraw as needed.

· Pulse Checks –

o Pulse check follow up action is a school-wide effort. The following recommendation outlines key school staff members who are particularly adept to complete the follow up action:

o Survey #1 – Family Academic Support Team (FAST) members, Surveys #2-7 – Teachers; School Administrators as needed

o A spreadsheet will be sent to the appropriate staff for follow up by noon on Friday.

o Follow up must occur and be documented by 4:00 PM the following Monday

o All follow up actions should be noted in Total View using the Students First: Pulse Check Follow Up Total View Note Template.

o – Add method of communication (e-mail, phone, etc.) to the beginning of the subject line

o AND

o – Add “Successful” to the beginning of the subject line for a successful follow up attempt

o – Add “Unsuccessful” to the beginning of the subject line for an unsuccessful follow up attempt

Special Education Information

If you commit to attend an IEP/TIEP meeting as a gen ed teacher, please make sure you are keeping that commitment.

It is extremely difficult for district reps to attempt to find a last minute "fill in" and it also is not fair to the student/family.

Professional Development News

Please note that Lauren's email has switched from OHVA to K12. lascott@k12.com

There was a lot of training due last Friday.

Bloodborne Pathogens and Safety & Violence Prevention Training-all 4 modules are required by our charter sponsor OCCS to be completed ASAP. These trainings should be your priority if not already completed. The 4 K12 trainings should be completed following these trainings as you are able.
