Benchmark Materials Guidance
As we prepare to receive our new reading curriculum materials it will be important to dispose, surplus or recycle our Benchmark materials. We will not be collecting surplus materials until June. Please keep materials to use this last quarter.
- Student consumable books may be recycled
- Leveled books may be given to students or donated to the community
- Please keep your Reader's Theatres. The new curriculum does not bring something that is comparable to this resource.
- You may give decodable books to students
- Teacher edition manuals will be turned in and sent to surplus
- Steps to Advance will be sent to surplus
- You may keep any of the knowledge building books that interest you or turn in to be sent to surplus
- Keep all RGR materials. They can be used in your classroom for small group instruction and as a Tier 2 intervention.

Students and MCPS staff will no longer need to follow the minimum 5-day isolation period for a new COVID-19 infection. Schools and worksites should transition to the new symptom-based strategy for any common respiratory virus, which recommends returning to work or school at least 24 hours after being fever-free with improving symptoms.
