PIC Parent Update

September 13, 2024

Happy Friday,

Currently, this update is going to be read differently than last, since there have been transitional changes within this past week. As you received communication earlier this week, I have been appointed the new Assistant Principal of Peotone Junior High. It will be bittersweet for me, as I will miss the PIC staff and students but also excited to join the Peotone Junior High community. Great things have always happened here in my time at PIC and I am confident that even amongst these changes (without a doubt) that the staff and the students will continue to do great things. I cannot stress enough how genuinely it has been a pleasure working with the PIC students, staff, and families. With that being said, Ms. Laura Henderson (PIC's current social worker) will be stepping into the interim role here at PIC until Mrs. Tekiela returns from her leave. The plan is to make this transition as smooth as possible within the next few weeks. I will work with Ms. Henderson in the upcoming few weeks to transition her into this role, as I will also transition into my new role. On another note, next week we will be conducting our safety walk here at PIC with students during P.E. For the safety walk, we walk around the building with the students outside so they are familiar with different exits, our meeting place in case of a true emergency, etc. Please reach out if you have any other questions regarding our safety walk. It again, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th.

Furthermore, today, we gathered in support of our beloved Mrs. Flanagan who is a true treasure to us all. Below, you will find information on how to order a shirt if you wish to show her your support. She is not only a great teacher, but a truly kind person who is involved in the community and has touched the lives of many (big or small).

Quick Note From the School Nurses:

Reminder:

"As we enter the Fall season, illnesses have increased throughout our building. Please keep an eye on your child for fevers, multiple col symptoms, unknown rashes, or diarrhea/vomiting. Our parent handbook states your student needs to stay home with the following:

1: Fever of 100.0 degrees or above (clear to return once fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication).

2: Vomiting or diarrhea (clear to return once free of vomit/diarrhea for 24 hours since last episode).

3: Being placed on an antibiotic by the doctor. (The 24 hour time period allows for an antibiotic to take effect or for a sick child to fully recover).

Returning to school too early benefits no one and keeps the cycle of illness going.

RE-ADMITTANCE AFTER ILLNESS - The school may require a doctor's note for a child to return to school if the student has missed three or more consecutive days of attendance. "
