Changes for 2024-25
PPS schools have changes in scheduling and staffing for the 2024-25 school year.
MLC is exploring a full day on Friday for students and staff to accommodate the changes in the contract as a result of bargaining as well as FDA rules regarding lunch not being served on a half day.
PPS recently sent an email with new start and end times for all schools. We are an MPG school (Multiple Pathways to Graduation) so we are able to decide which model works best for us. When we have more information and our schedule is decided, we will share with our community.
FIT Assessment?
Our school will soon participate in a district-wide opportunity for reflection called the Fidelity of Implementation Tool (FIT) Assessment. The FIT is a tool that measures the extent to which a school implements many of the systems and practices that have been identified as critical to equitable and inclusive schools that ensure high levels of learning for all students.
During the FIT, two support staff from the district will spend the day with us, talking to a variety of people in the school community to get an understanding of our practices. Family and community members are invited to participate in a conversation with the district staff in order to respond to predetermined questions that are asked as part of the assessment. If you would like to join us, please call, email or connect with me in person.
We will use the data we collect from this process to inform our School Continuous Improvement Plan and other work at the building level. The district will look at district-wide data to highlight areas for further intentional support.
Volunteers needed in the library!
Our library needs some love.
Here are some of the projects we are working on:
- Shelving books
- Weeding out old or damaged books
- Cleaning up the shelves so the books are in the correct places
- Book displays, bulletin boards, general decor updating
If any of these seems like something you can help with, send Molly an email msoloway@pps.net

GET YOUR TICKETS: Grow Together: MLC Community Event & Auction

The Evergreen, 618 SE Alder St
Secure your tickets now!
ourschool.support/MLC2024GrowTogether
More than just a fundraiser, Grow Together is a celebration of the strong bonds that unite us. Last year, our return to post-pandemic gatherings with the "Come Together" auction reaffirmed the importance of community. As we continue to strengthen our connections and sow the seeds for another fruitful year, we invite everyone to become more rooted in relationships and "Grow Together." Tickets are available starting at $0 with tiered pricing designed for inclusion. It is important to us that cost not be a barrier to attendance and that all feel welcome at this community event!
But we can’t do it without you! Check out the ways in which you can support our event below. Contact Sierra Stringfield Perryman with any questions.
Host a Buy-In Party: Buy-in parties (also known as slot parties or sign-up parties), are opportunities for connection hosted by MLC families, teachers, alums, or supporters. They're like electives for grownups, or for the whole family, or even just for kids but outside of school time! Find more info on the Buy-In Party Interest Form
Donate to the silent and live auctions: Please consider donating your time, talent, or treasures. We are building a robust catalog and have some awesome packages coming together, but we would appreciate additional gift cards, physical items, artwork, interesting experiences, photography sessions, concert, festival or sporting event tickets…think outside the box about what *YOU* can offer, or ask your favorite business what they can contribute! If you’d like a template donation request letter, just ask and we’d be happy to share. Please use our online donation form or coordinate directly with Sierra.
Donate to the Wine Wall: We are collecting bottles of wine for our Wine Wall, where participants pay a set fee and choose a wrapped bottle…which could be a good one or a great one! It’s a win-win. If you have a bottle to donate, or have a connection to a wine shop or a local vineyard that would be willing to donate, please reach out to Sierra to coordinate as wine can not be dropped off on school property.
SAVE THE DATE: PTSA Used Book Sale
Thursday May 2, 8:30am-6:00pm and Friday, May 3, 8:30am-2:00pm
MLC Library
The Used Book Sale has become a beloved annual tradition benefiting the MLC library and we are excited to announce that it will return this year thanks to dedicated volunteers! More details to follow, but please start collecting books in good condition to donate and reach out to Tammy Chan if you can lend a hand with collecting, sorting, cleaning, and staffing.
VOLUNTEER: Parking Crew
The MLC PTSA hosts parking in our school lots for Timbers and Thorns games which helps support our school with much-needed funds for classrooms and electives supplies, field trips, scholarships and community events…so many of the things we love about MLC! Shifts are short and we will be there to teach you everything you need to know. For every shift you volunteer, we will enter your name into a drawing for a prize (Timbers tickets, Oaks Park skating passes, and more). Thanks to our generous donors for these fun incentives.
Sign up HERE with a friend or come make new ones! Questions? Contact our coordinators, Tammy or Chenney.
UPCOMING PTSA MEETING: Join us the first Tuesday of each month
Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 2, 6:30-8:00pm

TOURS AND ENROLLMENT
MLC Tours for Interested Students & Families
Exploring school options to determine the best fit for a student can be both exciting and anxiety producing. We believe getting to actually see the surrounding location and have a guided tour of the building can be very helpful in this decision-making process. To accommodate the numerous requests for tours, we offer a monthly tour for up to 10 interested families on the second Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm and will last approximately 45-60 minutes.
April 11
May 9
Please email Benner, our 7-12 counselor to initiate the sign up process or if you have any questions. gbenner@pps.net
When the lottery dates are announced we will also host an evening open house event for families. Please check our website for updates.
