DFPS wants to empower communities with the resources below in order to support Texas children, youth, and families where they live, work and play!

-April 5th is Go Blue Day where all are encouraged to wear BLUE on that Friday in order to stand united against child abuse and neglect.

-Texas Youth Helpline:

Did you know there is a helpline that youth can call or text anytime 24/7 when in a crisis? Professionals provide free and confidential services to the youth, even if they just need someone to listen and talk to that day. The youth can chose to remain anonymous. They can also help family members of the youth get local referrals for assistance (also available in Spanish).

-Getparentingtips.com:

Parenting can be a difficult at times, this site provides great parenting tips for those moments. It also has short and informative videos on different parenting topics. This website is also available in Spanish. https://getparentingtips.com/

You can find your student's STAAR scores, progress reports, and report cards in Ascender Parent Portal. Please use this link and follow the directions to find these essential reports. It is important to BISD that you have access to your child's academic progress at all times. You can also monitor your child's grades and attendance and receive alerts.

If your student retook an EOC in December 2023 the official scores are in the parent portal.

The BISD Testing Calendar will let parents know all testing days for all grade-levels. It is imperative that students are at school on the testing day or the following day for make-ups. If you already know there is a conflict please contact your child's campus. Also, please do not make any appointments on testing days as the test has a 7 hour time limit (1 school day) for administration.

Join us at a Bowie ISD Bond 2024 Town Hall meeting. We will have two times available on April 24, 2024.

If you would like to come during the day on a lunch break, we will be having the meeting from 12:00-1:00 at Bowie ISD Central Admin Building.

If the evening after work is better for your family, we will be having a meeting at Bowie Junior High from 5:30-6:30.

On April 8, 2024 there will be a solar eclipse viewable from Texas. This is a unique opportunity and we are excited to provide another educational experience for our students. Some students will be able to view the eclipse with protective eyewear and others may be viewing it via video live feed. Either way, we want to provide some resources for everyone to learn and participate. This would be a great topic to discuss at home. Below are some resources you could use at home to help with background knowledge and the experience.

Summer Strength & Conditioning/Skills information along with Summer Camp dates.

•Strength & Conditioning is for all incoming 7th-12th boys and girls.

•Individual summer camp flyers will be posted on Facebook with more details and pricing. Packets for each camp will be available at the front desk of each school in the district.

Bowie ISD Summer School - June 3-13 (Monday-Thursday)

Classes will consist of the following:

• Credit Recovery for students at BHS who did not earn credit because of attendance or a passing grade.
• Attendance -students that did not meet the 90% rule for attendance will be required to make up time and work during summer school
• STAAR - Students who DO NOT MEET expectations on STAAR will be invited to summer school and receive their 15 or 30 hours of instruction to meet HB 1416 requirements.
• EOC - Students who DO NOT MEET expectations on EOC tests will be invited to a 4 day bootcamp and be ale to retake the test at its conclusion.

Hospitality and Tourism students at BJH have started their Art unit of understanding color! Students completed a color wheel using everyday items to signify primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Didn't they turn out beautiful.

Congratulations to the BHS band for earning straight 1s (Superior ratings) from all 6 judges. Also, they have earned their 4th consecutive Sweepstakes award (earned a 1 in Marching, Concert, and Sight reading). Way to go Mighty Marching Maroon Band!

Students at this reading station are writing consonant-vowel-consonant words. The more they are able to write and work on letter sounds the more they become fluent readers.

Each student was given a cold and stiff tootsie roll that would represent their muscles. They learned that if you jump straight into a vigorous activity the “tootsie roll” would rip and tear. As they warmed up the girls held the tootsie roll in their hand. At the end they examined the tootsie roll and learned that it was much more flexible and stretched further than before. By doing this experiment the athletes learned that doing a proper warm-up will help from pulling our muscles so easily.

Pubic show at 6:30 p.m. on April 7 at BJH.

Students go to the Promethean board to show their thinking and answers to the class. The class looks at the work and acknowledges their efforts or gives suggestions. Helping each other with their "Math Talk" and validating different ways to solve the problem helps all the mathematicians in the room.

Both the Jackrabbit and Lady Rabbit Gold teams won in district and will advance to Regionals in Abilene.

Congratulations to Bowie senior powerlifters Jordan Vaught and Kinley Russell who competed at the girl’s state powerlifting meet in Frisco. Vaught earned a medal and finished fourth in her weight class while Russell finished eighth in the final meet of the senior’s careers. The girls are pictured with Coach Quinn Wilson.
