Greetings TVMS families,

Before Spring break we hosted an Internet Safety and Social Media Parent Information Night. Ms. Valerie Harvey from the Local Children's Board shared some valuable insights with our community. This week, our Den lesson continued to emphasize the importance of understanding Social Media influence. Below are some key takeaways from the Parent Information Session that can serve a helpful reminders.

Be sure to join us for our Health and Wellness Fair this upcoming Tuesday, April 9th from 5:00- 7:00 PM. The Local Children's Board will be there to share additional resources along with many other community resources. This is a shared event with HHES and includes FREE activities and presentations. Green Valley Food Truck, PKG Mobile Kitchen and Auntie Anne's Pretzel Truck will be on site for those that wish to purchase dinner.

Please note that school is closed for students the following day, on April 10, 2024.

Our Journalism GT Instructional Seminar has been busy working on the articles and illustrations for the second edition of our Timberwolf Times. Please take some time and read the various articles that our students have written. There are articles about the TVMS Spelling Bee, the Sneaker Ball, and Honor Roll as well as an article about the UCL Cup and an article about Artificial Intelligence.

The Gifted and Talented (G/T) Summer Institutes for Talent Development offers additional advanced-level instruction and enrichment experiences not regularly available during the academic school year for students entering grades 1-8. Rigorous instruction focusing on talent development is offered in mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, technology and fine arts.

No testing nor prior G/T coursework is required for enrollment in these enrichment offerings.

For Summer 2024, we will be offering one two-week session from July 8 - 19 at Burleigh Manor Middle School. While the program is half-day, before and after care is available on site via Howard County Recreation and Parks.

Financial assistance is available for students participating in the Free and Reduced Meal Program.

Families of HCPSS students may enter registration requests through HCPSS Connect beginning on April 2 at 6 p.m.

During its March 7 meeting, the Board of Education voted to fund 50 percent enrollment for the 2024 Black Student Achievement Program Summer Institute and G/T Summer Institutes for Talent Development. Online enrollment requests for these programs opened in HCPSS Connect Synergy Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. and will remain open through Monday, April 15 at 6 p.m. Enrollment requests do not guarantee placement in summer programs. Our large white collection bin is at the edge of the school parking lot nearest Hanover Hills Elementary School. Please help us fill our bin with as many plastic bags of new or gently used clothing, shoes and other textiles. Our school will continue to earn money for every pound we collect.

Effective the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year, 1 dose of Tdap vaccine and 1 dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) are required by the state of Maryland for all students entering grade 7. Many students may have already received these immunizations, but the Health Room may not have the updated immunization record. Please contact your student’s doctor and send or fax an updated copy of your student’s immunizations to the Health Room or schedule an appointment to have your student receive these immunizations. Our fax number is 443-973-5510. The Health Department provides immunization opportunities for kids who are not up-to-date on school-required vaccinations. Call the Health Department at 410-313-7500 for more information and to schedule a vaccination appointment for your child.

Students are not permitted to use their personal technology devices (phones) during school time, including lunch, recess and hallway transitions. This is in accordance with the Board of Education Policy 8080. If a student is seen with their device they will be expected to put it away immediately. If chronic issues persist, disciplinary actions may be implemented in alignment with the HCPSS Code of Conduct.

To support this, please refrain from calling or texting your child during school hours. If you need to get a message to them or contact them, please call the Front Office at 410-313-8711

Food delivery services (i.e. Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc.) are not allowed. Delivery will be refused as we do not have the capability to process this during the school day. If a parent would like to bring their child's lunch to the school, we ask that you do so prior to the start of your child's lunch shift. Parents will need to leave the lunch with our Front Office staff.
