From the Principal's Desk
I can't believe March is upon us! There is an old saying that if March comes in like a lion it goes out like a lamb. With the change in the weather and recent storms, I would say we definitely had a "roar of a lion" type of weather but hopefully sunny skies await us!
-If you have not already done so, please complete our 5 essentials parent survey, we have had 19% of our parents complete it and our goal is 20%! LINK
-Report cards are going home today in your child's backpacks/folders.
-Registration for the 2024-2025 school year opens on Monday, March 4th! Please register you students as soon as possible so we can allocate sections and teachers. This is most important for Kindergarten and Pre-school! Registration can be done through Skyward here: LINK
And finally, we have sent home trimester 2 truancy letters this week. If your child has been tardy or missed (10%) 11.5 or more school days this year, you can expect this letter. It is not meant as a punishment, but sometimes we don't even realize how many days have been adding up. I myself have a kindergartener, and we have had a significant amount of days where he was too ill to attend school this winter. THIS HAPPENS. But there are some students who are missing quite a significant amount of learning and we want to partner with you to ensure your students are growing and learning, but they must be at school to do that. So please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns or need any assistance getting your child to school on time. We want to work together for our students!
Have a wonderful weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan

Erin's Law Presentation
Dear Parents:
Erin’s Law, House Bill 6193 was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013. This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. It is recommended that four communications a year on Erin’s Law be made available to all students, often through social-emotional instruction and/or contact with the school social worker.
Victor Pacini, a survivor of sexual abuse, author, and motivational speaker, will be assisting our schools in implementing this mandate. Mr. Pacini’s program is developmentally appropriate, interactive, and aligned with learning standards. The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
• Distinguishing safe from unsafe touches
• Safety rules at home and school
• Saying “NO”
• Safe/Unsafe Secrets
• It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
• Telling a trusted adult
Mr. Pacini and his colleague, Deanna Hynes, will be presenting at our schools on Friday, March 8. Each grade level will participate in an assembly for approximately 30 minutes. The content can be previewed here: https://www.victorpacini.com/peace-of-mind-2/
If you have any questions please contact your building principal or our school social worker, Mrs. Crystal Phan, at: cphan@saltcreek48.org

In support of our Read-A-Thon, we've joined the Cougars Reading Club! A reading incentive program sponsored by the Kane County Cougars baseball team. Your child will have the opportunity to improve his or her reading skills, raise money for SC, and earn a free ticket to a Cougars game.
Student forms were already sent home with students but additional copies are pictured below. Students should read 3 books every two weeks of the program. When they do, write the titles of the books and return that portion of the ticket to Mrs. Ross in our library. Each ticket is a base! The fourth week, students score a "HOME RUN" and earn their free ticket to the game!
K-4th grade students will use their tickets to go to a day game on May 14th during school hours, and preschool students will earn a ticket they can use for a night game on either Friday, May 24th or Saturday, May 26th.
In addition if you would like your child to have a vegetarian option lunch, please complete this form.
What's Happening at Salt Creek
Watching the Weather
Make sure students dress for the weather!
It is that time of year when temperatures drop, snow falls, or it's warm and sunny! (It is the midwest after all!)
Please remember to dress for the weather as we enter these colder months. For students to play in the snow at school they need: Coat, Hat/hood, gloves, snow pants, and boots. Otherwise they will play on the blacktop for recess.
We go outside as long as we are within the safe zones of the Child Care Weather Watch Chart included below. Please make sure your students have what they need to be comfortable during outdoor recess!

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.
Late Arrivals
Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.
Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted a new emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
TECHNOLOGY FEE
You can make payment for your child's school fees through RevTrak by signing on to Skyward. If you do not see a tech fee in RevTrak please contact the school office your child will attend. Please see below for RevTrak payments. You can also come in and make payment by cash or check to any school in our district.
Thank you in advance.
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
NO MORE E-PAY! We have rolled out a new way to pay for lunches, school fees and activity fees for students. You can sign up here https://saltcreek48.revtrak.net/. Or you can go to your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
