Updates for the Week
We hope that your family has enjoyed a good weekend. Here are some updates for the week of January 29 - February 2. You can find full details on our Eagle Connection page below and by clicking on your child's teacher.
We just learned that WCS has announced inclement weather dates. February 16 will now become a student day, and the early release day from February 15 has been shifted to Feb. 16. February 15 will be a full day. March 21st will now become a student day and March 22 will become a teacher workday.
This week, teachers will continue with important mid-year assessments. Teachers in all grades are finishing up essential mCLASS reading and STAR assessments, and students in 3rd and 5th grade will be participating in important check in tests. These state-required assessments are designed to help teachers measure how students are learning grade level content. We will have 3rd reading check-ins on Tuesday and 5th reading on Wednesday. Results of all assessments will be shared with parents in February. Also as we start the third quarter, please note that we will send home new attendance notes this week.
We are now accepting sign ups for our pre-k for the 2024-2025 school year. If your child will be 4 on or before August 30, 2024 AND if you live in the WES area, your child is eligible for pre-k screening. We will be conducting screening on March 4, and you must sign up in advance. Students must be screened in order to be eligible to apply for pre-k. Our program is popular and fills up quickly, so please call our office soon at 336-838-4261 if interested to sign up for a screening time and to get more enrollment details. https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1868656
We’d like to let you know that we are currently taking orders for our 2024 yearbook. The cost is $25, and we will only order yearbooks for those who order in advance. We sent home flyers last week, and you can order a yearbook by returning the envelope and payment to school OR by ordering directly online from the Strawbridge website. Orders will be accepted through March 15. You can find full details on our Eagle Connection page and our school website: https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1871573
We’d like to remind families who are paying for field trips on the monthly installment plan that the January $10 payment is now due. You can send payments to your teacher or pay in our online portal. If you are paying online, note the system will not reflect your previous payments, but Ms. Rebekah has documented those at school. Also, if you’ve paid online, please disregard any “payment due” emails you may receive as these are a system issue. If you have a question about your child’s payments, please call our office.
We’d like to congratulate Ms. Brooks’ first grade in winning the spirit award last Friday. The PTO is still looking for volunteers to help with spring events like Field Day, so please complete the form on our Eagle Connection page if you want to help. We’d like to remind families of their upcoming Family Dance on February 25. There is information on our Eagle Connection page https://www.smore.com/g2xy1 , and we will share more details about how to sign up next week.
Also as the calendar turns to February, we have several big events coming up like class pictures, a PTO night on February 8, our PTO family dance on February 25, Kids Heart Challenge, field trips fand more. Please stay tuned to ClassDojo for full details.
We want to thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement and cooperation. We are grateful to our Wilkesboro Elementary family, and we look forward to another great week!
PTO Online Store Open with New Stuff!
Our WES PTO has an online store where you can buy WES shirts, sweatshirts, and products. Recently, they've added toboggans and vintage WES gear.
This store will run continuously through the rest of the school year. Orders will be pulled each month on the second Monday of the month. Depending on when the order is placed it may take up to 4 - 5 weeks to receive your order. Once orders are pulled they will be processed within 10 - 12 business days. PTO members will deliver products directly to your child's classroom.
You can find the online store at the link below.

We Need Volunteers!
We welcome volunteers to help with school events. WCS uses Volunteer Tracker to help organize this process, and we use Sign Up Genius (shared via email and ClassDojo) to make signing up easy and convenient. To get signed up, follow steps below.
1. Go to www.wilkescountyschools.org
2. Go to the PARENTS tab at the top (or VOLUNTEER at the bottom).
3. Click on VOLUNTEERS.
4. Click on VOLUNTEER TRACKER.
5. Go to the green NEW REGISTRATION and follow instructions from there.
Level 1 volunteers can help in many ways. Level 1 volunteers can sign up to help with book fairs, school events, class parties and projects, Field Day, Fall Festival, and proctoring for tests.
Level 2 volunteers can do all level 1 tasks but can also help chaperone field trips and work more closely with students in small groups. Level 2 volunteers can also sign up for classroom tutoring and assistance, reading buddy program, tutoring, leading after school activities, and chaperoning school events field trips.
We ask that all parents/guardians who plan to attend field trips sign up to be Level 2 volunteers at the start of the year. It takes a few weeks to verify volunteers, and signing up early will make sure that you are approved in time for this year’s events and field trips.
Car Line Helpers Needed!

About Attendance
School starts at 7:50 each day. Students who are participating will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes the next day and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. Written notes are required and can come directly from the parent/guardian or a medical office. Also note that ClassDojo messages are great for communicating an absence, but they do NOT serve as legal documentation of absences. Please send a written note. Thanks in advance for your help!
