Principal's Message
Dear Crosby Families,
I want to share my gratitude for each and every one of you. The past couple of weeks we have had some amazing events and have been lucky to partner with so many wonderful families.
The first event was our first event in our Kindergarten Parent Engagement Series on February 27th. During this event, parents were able to learn about the Science of Reading from our teachers, have dinner while discussing ways to support their child’s education, and share their hopes and dreams for their children with other parents. It was an amazing evening.
We are looking forward to our next event in the series on March 19th where we will be focusing on how to improve students’ literacy skills through oracy. If your child is in kindergarten, and you would like to attend please complete this link or fill out the form that was sent home with your child.
I also want to thank everyone who was able to come out to our annual Harvard Family Fun Night this week. It was an exciting evening filled with fun activities and amazing community vendors. It was so amazing to see over 400 people come through our hallways, seeing families laugh and smile as they walked through our halls, and hearing the joy in every one’s voice as they interacted with each other. Thank you to our volunteers, vendors, and families for making the night a success!
One area we need your help with is completing the 5 Essentials Survey. This survey information is a key tool that our school uses to identify and prioritize areas for improvement. As a parent, the 5Essentials survey is an opportunity to share your thoughts on the school's effectiveness.
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, is anonymous and asks questions about five areas that are related to important student outcomes, including improved attendance and learning. The five areas focused on are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey is one important way schools can use parent information to help understand the conditions at our school and focus improvement efforts. Please help us by completing this survey so we can understand your needs as parents better on how to support your child.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We appreciate all that you do to support your child’s education and continued success.

5 Essentials Survey
The 5 Essentials Survey is now open. This is a survey administered in collaboration with the State of Illinois and the University of Chicago that gives us information about our school district that we then use to improve our schools. The window is open from January 30 to March 29. You can access the survey with the link below. It is available in English and Spanish, and your responses are anonymous. Click here for the survey link
IAR Testing- 3rd Grade Only
We would like to inform you about the upcoming Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) testing for our third-grade students. The testing period spans multiple days, beginning on April 2nd, and continuing on April 4th, 9th, 11th, and 12th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. It is crucial that your child attends school on these specific dates. The assessment consists of five tests, and more detailed information will be sent home by the third-grade teachers. Your support and encouragement during this testing period are greatly appreciated as we work together to ensure the academic success of our students. Thank you for your cooperation.
Parent Community Liaison (PCL)
Hello dear parents, don't forget to fill out the 5 essentials survey.
Thank you for supporting us!
I remind you that although the weather is in our favor some days, some days are cold and your children need to come dressed warmly, please do not let your child go out without a coat in case the day is cool.
Contact your PCL for information about resources available in the community.
Have a wonderful month of March !!
