Construction at Saline High School Slated to Begin March 25
The passage of the 2022 bond supporting Saline Area Schools brought two additions to the High School. Construction will begin at the Saline High School STEAM Center in the front of the building, and weight room in the back of the building, starting March 25. Saline Schools has award-winning programming in both athletics and STEAM, exemplifying our commitment to fostering excellence across a wide range of disciplines. The District values the diverse opportunities for student excellence and is striving to create the best possible conditions for ongoing growth and development in these areas. We greatly value the many voices of students, staff, and stakeholders who contributed to the design process.

Upon the return to school on April 1, families and staff will notice some changes to existing spaces and traffic patterns.
Main Entrance Relocating: The main (south) entrance to the High School and front parking lot will be closed during construction. Visitors, guests, and students arriving later in the day are invited to use the east entrance (near the auditorium). Currently, these students park on the west side and take the walking path to the front office to check-in. This path will be unavailable once construction begins, so we ask students to park on the east side.
We will set up a temporary “main” office near the east vestibule. Visitor parking spaces will be added to the existing student parking area on the east side of the building. The bus loop outside of the east entrance should NOT be used for regular pick-up/drop-off vehicle traffic. Drop-off and pick-up for students with special needs will take place in the employee parking lot on the east side of the building. Details about special needs pick-up and drop-off will be communicated with the families impacted individually.
Retention Pond Expansion: Building additions require the need for additional water retention. Existing retention ponds on the north and south sides of the building will be enlarged to accommodate the construction. On the south side of the building (across the road from the High School), walking paths around the retention pond will be raised 8-10 inches in order to make the retention pond deeper. On the north side of the building, the retention pond will be enlarged. Trees will be removed in both areas to accommodate the project. Walking trails and natural spaces around the retention ponds will be inaccessible beginning the summer of 2024, but are planned to be restored.
Construction Fencing: Construction fencing will be installed around both projects, impacting exterior pathways on the north and south sides of the building. High School staff are working closely with contractors to limit the impact on foot traffic outside of the building as much as possible. All emergency exits will be maintained during construction. Advisors and coaches will be in touch with impacted students and families as we learn more about the footprint of fencing.
We know that with the excitement of any renovation, we also must endure the construction phase, and greatly appreciate the community’s patience and flexibility as we begin this journey.
