LISD Expect Excellence Newsletter
February 12th, 2024
Hello Levelland Lobos.
The snow on Sunday was so beautiful. Thankfully the ice melted fairly quickly.
If you watched the Super Bowl you know that one team celebrated and the night ended in joy for them. Unfortunately, the other team went home disappointed.
Life is like this everyday for all of us. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. What really matters though is how you react to the wins and losses. Winning breeds success and so should losing. Coming back stronger and having the strive to win is what makes a loss worth it. I hope you always win, and if you don't, I hope the losses lead to even better wins.
Happy Valentine's Day. Chocolate always makes the day better.
Levelland ISD Expect Excellence.
Best Regards,
Becky McCutchen

South Plains College Sneak Peek
Our LHS Seniors participated in the South Plains College Sneak Preview last week. SPC really did this event right. They held an opening assembly followed by a program showcase where 700 students from 20 different schools broke up to go to the college of their interest. Students learned more about 16 different colleges and about 72 programs. Then, they took a firsthand tour of the SPC campus & residence halls. Thank you SPC, for hosting this fabulous event to encourage our LHS seniors to figure out what they might want to do after high school. It was a fantastic day!
World Read Aloud Day!
Do you know how important it is to read aloud to small children? LISD participated in World Read-Aloud Day last Wednesday! Most read-aloud books are picture books, but we caught LMS Librarian Mixie Clowe and South Librarian Roxanne Toney reading chapter books with students. Capitol Librarian Pam Alexander and ABC Librarian Abi Swain always read books aloud too! Capitol students read online stories today too, through a Scholastic Book Club site. ABC has focused on having community members come into the library this year to read to students. Thank you Mrs. Breann Buxkemper, for reading aloud to our kids! Every day is a great day to read a book aloud and LISD is so proud that our educators love helping students discover books!
TCEA Convention Attendees
Our LISD Technology gurus attended the 2024 Texas Computer Education Association Convention & Exposition this week. These educators are dedicated to advancing good teaching and learning through the use of technology to make learning possible for every student. They were set up to dig into curiosity and discover by learning from top-notch speakers, on-trend sessions, an exhibit hall full of first-rate vendors for resources, and lots of networking. We are always thrilled when our people learn new things to teach and connect with students!
Guest Speaker
Dr. Tori Hall visited Mrs. Katie Pena's LHS College Readiness classes to speak to them about being ready for college. Dr. Hall teaches Microbiology at SPC. She spoke to students about learning strategies and metacognition. She began with the Neuroscience of Learning and explained how the brain works to learn. She continued by discussing learning strategies and studying strategies. Dr. Hall explained the importance of sleep and good nutrition which both support good learning. Thank you Dr. Hall, for taking the time to visit Levelland High School and sharing your expertise with our amazing students!
LHS Solo & Ensemble Choir News............
