Coffee Shop
Mrs. Timmer's coffee shop received an upgrade this week. Due to a generous donation, they now own a milk frother! If you're interested in donating to the coffee shop, please email Mrs. Karle Timmer at timmerk@waylandunion.org.
Heart Hero Week
Pine Street celebrated their heart hero this week! Raihlynn is a youth ambassador for the American Heart Association. Wednesday WIPTO helped celebrate Raihlynn by providing every student her favorite snack of Lays potato chips!
Reading WIN
Beginning in November, Emmet Stewart from Pine Street Elementary had one goal in Reading WIN: earn the opportunity to win lunch of his choice with Mrs. Botwinski. Emmet had a chance in December, but luck wasn't on his side. This week, Emmet earned his third opportunity to win lunch. With only five scratch-off cards left, Emmet pulled "Lunch of Your Choice"! Emmet was too excited to decide what he'll have for lunch; however, Mrs. Botwinski has a hunch it will be Culver's.
Rock Paper Scissors
Dorr Elementary staff held a Rock Paper Scissors competition for Leap Day. Each staff member started with 5 necklaces. Then staff challenged each other to a game of rock, paper, scissors. The winner took one of the opposers necklace. The staff with the most necklaces at the end of the day won a prize. Students got a great lesson on sportsmanship, and cheered their teachers on. All day you could hear staff and students challenging each other, cheering and laughing. 3rd Grader Owen even challenged Mrs. Seniura to a game. Owen was the winner!
Literacy Night
Steeby Elementary held their Lego-themed literacy night on February 29th! Students enjoyed creative reading-based activities, including flashlight reading. And of course, there were lots and lots of Legos!
March Madness Multiplication
Students in Ms. VanderGeld’s class have started their March Madness Multiplication Wrestling bracket play. Students are battling one another each Friday until the end of the month. It is a single elimination game. The game focuses on practicing two digit by two digit multiplication. The final winner will receive a free lunch with Ms. VanderGeld from their restaurant of choice in Wayland. Let the games begin!!
Glow Party
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Merchant celebrated the Kids Heart Challenge Fundraiser both at Baker and Steeby Elementary with a glow party for students who raised $100 or more!
