We Are Extending the River Rat Run Sign-Up Competition to April 22!

If you haven't already, sign up for the River Rat Run 3k race today! The homeroom with the most registered participants will win a Chick-Fil-A or Hoggy's party (winner's choice) for the class and a "wish list" item(s) (up to $150) for the teacher.

How can you help your homeroom win?

1. Register yourself, your student, and/or your family for the race.
2. Ask or tell everyone you know to register for the race!
3. Share the River Rat Run sign-up link on your social media.
4. Don't forget to share the name of your student's homeroom teacher on your registration form.

Join us on Wednesday, April 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the SSS cafeteria for a community discussion with Superintendent Satterly and Principal Sams about your student's education and school experience. We will discuss data gathered from the Family Feedback Survey and answer questions received from the Question Submission & Meeting Attendance Form.

Food and childcare will be provided.

The PTSA is organizing Field Day, and we still need volunteers for our middle school events. Volunteers will oversee stations, and the PTSA will provide guidance about assigned activities. Teachers and administrators will also be present to manage students during Field Day.

On April 22, Second Street School will celebrate Earth Day with exhibits from 4-H Youth Development, Food Chain KY, Division of Air Quality, KY Division of Water, KY Division of Fish and Wildlife, KSU Extension Environmental Education, and Woods and Water Land Trust. The SSS PTSA is grateful to these partners for bringing environmental awareness to our children.

The PTSA is sponsoring a tree planting on the SSS playground. Connie Lemley, Farm to School Coordinator, will plant this tree on Earth Day to provide a shaded place for everyone to enjoy.

On May 1, the PTSA will begin accepting nominations for one (1) parent representative to serve for the 2024-2025 academic year on the School Based Decision-Making Council at Second Street School for a two-year term. The PTSA will share application details in a couple weeks.

The School Based Decision-Making Council makes important decisions regarding Second Street School. We encourage all qualified candidates to consider running for election for this available seat and also attend the council meetings. Our parent representatives give families a voice in the decision-making process.

Join us on May 14 at 5:30 p.m. for our last General Meeting of the school year in the SSS Cafeteria. Please help us plan food and childcare needs by completing the attendance sign-up form.

We will be holding PTSA Board elections at this meeting, and the Treasurer position is open for nominations. Please email nominations to sssfrankfort@gmail.com. Nominees must be a PTSA member and in good standings. Nominations will be accepted until Saturday, May 5, and slated positions will be announced on May 8. Anyone who wishes to run from the floor for a position that is already slated must reach out to the Secretary Cathy Lindsay (or Treasurer if Secretary is the Nominating Chair), by 5 p.m. the day prior to the meeting. No nominations will be accepted from the floor during the meeting for slated positions.
