NB Jr./Sr. High School
March 31, 2024
I can't believe it's the start of the 4th quarter when we return on Monday. The year is flying by!
We had a great Career Fair on Thursday. Presenters from over 20 different career paths were at NBHS to talk to our students about career opportunities after graduation. Many of the presenters told me our students were some of the best they have seen! I am so proud of our students and school! Thank you to our staff and especially Ms. Pelissier who created this event for our students.
Vaping is a major crisis in our school throughout the country. Our school will be partnering with counseling service providers to help educate our students about the dangers of vaping. Be sure to check out the information from Ms. Margolis in this newsletter. There is also a link to a virtual calming room she has created for our students and families.
Looking forward to finishing the year strong.
Have a Happy Easter! 🐇 🌷

From Our Counselors
Dear Parents & Guardians,
North Brookfield Public Schools were recently awarded a grant through DESE and are using some of the funding to partner with Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services to offer a free vaping cessation program for students. Participants will meet individually with a clinician over six weeks in virtual sessions that provide education on the risks of vaping and strategies to aid in quitting. We currently have 20 slots available and will begin running the program in April. Please reach out to the school adjustment counselor, Tova Margolis (tmargolis@nbschools.org), before April 5th with any questions or to learn more. Please see the description below for additional information.
Vaping Treatment Program
Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, Inc. (SYFS) has developed an innovative vaping treatment program for youth. SYFS’s program provides psychoeducation around vaping, builds motivation to reduce vaping and teaches concrete skills to make decreasing harm from vaping and quitting possible. The program is intended to be delivered at school. Our program is grounded in the evidence-based practices, Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), both of which are promoted by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Vaping is an addiction and requires treatment, like any other substance use disorder.

The annual senior-faculty game has been rescheduled for April 5th at 6pm. I think the staff needed extra time to prepare for the big game. Our students are fired up and ready to go! The sports makers are favoring the students by 2, but Coaches Malone and Kinnen feel they have a strong team of cagey veterans. Can our staff keep up with the pace of our students? Come and find out this Friday!
School and Community Event May 8th 5-7pm
Mark your calendars for the next big family and community event with NBHS. We will have our community partners, band, art, food and fun on May 8th from 5-7pm. The main event is a performance by nationally recognized performer and motivational speaker, John Morello. This entire night is free for everyone and is open to all families and students. Mark your calendars for this big event right here in North Brookfield. Click the link below for more information about John's performance.
