
OpenSciEd Curriculum Launch
for Middle School & High School
This professional learning focuses on the instructional routines, assessment design, & unit specific learning for middle and high school science teachers, instructional coaches, & administrators. While the instructional routines are used in all OpenSciEd units, they are transferable to all NGSS-designed units.
Outline of Learning:
- Day 1 - Student lens immersion of the Anchoring Phenomenon routine followed by teacher lens analysis of the AP. A thorough review & analysis of the following routines is included on this day: Navigation, Investigation, Putting the Pieces Together, & Problematizing.
- Day 2 - Assessment & Unit Specific Storyline
- Day 3 - Creating a Grading Plan & Unit Specific time
Learning Targets
Participants will:
- learn how to use the instructional routines to engage students in three-dimensional science learning;
- understand how to navigate the OpenSciEd curriculum to facilitate student-centered learning;
- use OpenSciEd resources to create an assessment plan for a unit;
- create a grading plan to support students as they figure out science ideas & concepts.

This is a 2 and 1/2 day class to take place at the PLAEA Fort Dodge Office.

Wednesday, June 5th: 8:30am - 3:30pm (one-hour lunch);
Thursday, June 6th: 8:30am - 3:30pm (one-hour lunch);
Friday, June 7th: 8:30am - 11:30am

PRIOR TO THE CLASS:
Required: Create an OpenSciEd account by visiting www.openscied.org - this allows you access to all of the OpenSciEd curriculum & resources.
Optional: Printed teacher edition of OpenSciEd unit that you are planning to implement (You can order one from Kendall Hunt:
