Cougar Parents Weekly Newsletter
Week of Monday, March 25th - Friday, March 29th, 2024
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Cougar parents!
We had a fantastic week at Middlesex! I am so proud and excited of our Brick City Challenge team. They won first place in the Twin County Competition this week. As many of you know, our Battle of the Books team won first place the week before and will be competing in the regionals after Spring Break. Middlesex students are really working hard and I could not be prouder of all our students!
We also had a great event Saturday at the Egg-travaganza! It was a wonderful time with games, food, and of course lots of eggs! I want to thank all our community partners for making this day special for the Middlesex community!
Tomorrow, report cards will be emailed out. We are also going to send home a hard copy. It's very important you review your child's report card and contact his/her teacher if you have any questions.
Tuesday, all 1st grade students will be on a field trip. If you have a first grade student, please make sure you have returned the permission form along with the money so your child will be able to attend.
Thursday, 4th grade students will be on a field trip. If you have a fourth grade student, please make sure you have returned the permission form along with the money so your child will be able to attend.
Also on Thursday, we will have a bunny hunt. Since the students and staff had so much fun hunting for frogs on Leap Day, we decided to do another hunt before Spring Break. We do need individually wrapped candy donated. We have 400 bunnies to hide and would like for every student to get something. If you are willing to donate a bag of candy, please bring it to the office by Wednesday at 12:00.
Finally, a reminder that school will be closed for students and staff from March 29th through April 5th. I do hope you all enjoy this time with your family and friends.
Thank you for all you do to make Middlesex Elementary such a special place for our students and staff! I hope you all enjoy this Sunday and I'll see you tomorrow!
Ms. Carey

Bell Schedule
Students may begin being dropped off at 7:20 AM
First Bell 7:40 AM
Morning Announcements 8:00 AM
Dismissal 3:00
**In order for students to be counted present, students may not be check-in later than 10:20 a.m or check-out earlier than 12:40 p.m.
**No student check-outs will be allowed after 2:30 PM
Student Arrival Procedure
- Pre-K students are dropped off at the side door in the bus parking lot. Please park your car, and sign your student in each morning.
- Student drop-off may begin at 7:20 AM. Students arriving between 7:20 AM and 7:40 AM will report to the cafeteria and sit in their assigned grade-level area. At 7:40 AM, students will report to their homeroom class. Any student arriving after 7:40 AM will eat breakfast in the cafeteria (breakfast is optional) and report to their homeroom class afterward. Breakfast will end at 7:55 AM.
- Students do not have to wait for an adult to open the car door; older students may get off if you feel comfortable allowing them to leave the car. That will help the line move faster in the morning. In addition, it helps to have students ready to unload quickly.
- Please remember at 7:55, the staff enters the building. If you bring your child to school and there is no staff member at the front of the school, you need to walk your child into the school. We want the students to be safe, and if there is no adult to supervise, the parent needs to walk into the office to check the child in.
Bus Rider Drop-Off
- Bus students arriving before 7:40 AM will report to the cafeteria and sit in their assigned grade-level area. When bus students arrive on campus after 7:40 AM, they will eat breakfast in the cafeteria (breakfast is optional) and report to their homeroom class.
Student Dismissal Procedures
Car Rider Pick Up
Begin dismissal procedures at 3:00 PM.
Car rider students will sit by grade level in the hallway by the front office until their name is called over the radio.
Parents will pick up students in the car line. (Do not park and pick up students)
- Please make sure you are making a double line while you wait for school to dismiss. Please pull all the way up to where the caller stands in the afternoons. The caller will alternate cars when calling students names. We are trying to get as many cars off the main street as possible, and this will help.
Check-In/Out Time for Student Attendance
In order for students to be counted in attendance for the school day they must check-in no later than 10:20AM and must not check-out earlier than 12:40PM. These check-in and check-out times reflect and align with NCPS Board Policy 4400.
Please complete the Google Form to join PTO. PTO still needs parent volunteers to join PTO to help with the different functions planned throughout the school year.
