Cucinella Weekly Wrap-Up #25
Week of March 11, 2024
"All our dreams can come true - if we have the courage to pursue them.” ― Walt Disney
It has been yet another week brimming with captivating activities and events taking place throughout our school community. Monday night, our teachers and staff took on the Harlem Wizards in what was a fun filled night for all involved. The event was a tremendous success, thanks to the incredible support and participation from our staff and community members. The energy and enthusiasm displayed by everyone involved made this event truly memorable. Not only did we have a fantastic basketball game, but we also raised valuable funds to support our school and enhance educational opportunities for our students. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff members who dedicated their time and talent to make this event a success, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the fundraiser. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated and make a significant difference in the lives of our students. And lastly THANK YOU to our dedicated Cucinella PTO for their invaluable support. This event's success was made possible by the tireless efforts of our PTO volunteers, whose hard work and dedication ensured its smooth execution.
On Friday, our school embraced the spirit of St. Patrick's Day with a variety of "Green" activities. Leading up to Friday, many teachers organized STEM-related activities, including the creation of "Leprechaun Traps" in hopes of catching the elusive trickster and safeguarding their classrooms over the weekend. We will have to wait until Monday to see if any of our students' creations were successful in capturing the Leprechaun. Stay tuned for pictures documenting the this Monday's events.
Also on Friday, Cucinella School had the honor of hosting Sgt. Matthew Bergen from the New Jersey State Police, who is also a parent in our community. Sgt. Bergen treated our students to the melodic sounds of the bagpipes, adding a nice touch to end our school week on the beautiful Friday afternoon. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sgt. Bergen for sharing his talents with us on this festive occasion!
As we enter the last trimester of the school year, I am delighted to take a moment to celebrate the remarkable growth and progress our students have made over the first two trimesters. It has been an incredible journey of learning, discovery, and achievement for our entire school community. From the start of school until now, I have had the privilege of witnessing our students demonstrate resilience, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence in every aspect of their education. Whether it's mastering new academic skills, developing important social-emotional competencies, or embracing challenges with a growth mindset, our students continue to inspire us with their dedication and determination. I am especially proud of the hard work and effort that our students have put into their learning, both inside and outside the classroom. Their enthusiasm for learning, curiosity about the world around them, and willingness to take risks have been instrumental in their growth and success. As we reflect on the achievements of the past two trimesters, let us also look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. With the support of our dedicated teachers, staff, and families, I am confident that our students will continue to flourish and thrive as they start the last trimester.
I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership in your child's education. Together, we have created a nurturing learning environment where every student can reach their full potential. As we continue our journey of growth and discovery, let us celebrate the progress we have made so far and look forward to the many exciting opportunities that await us in the remainder of the school year.
Just a reminder, our 4th and 5th grade students will be taking their MAP assessments this week in math and reading. It is important that our students come to school well-rested, prepared, and ready to showcase their skills and knowledge. I encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of doing their best on the MAP test and reassure them that it is an opportunity for them to demonstrate all that they have learned throughout the school year. Parents, you play a crucial role in supporting your child's education, and I want to thank you in advance for your partnership and encouragement during MAP testing. Your ongoing support and involvement in your child's education make a world of difference and contribute to their success. If you have any questions or concerns about MAP testing, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or myself. Together, we can ensure that our students have a positive and successful testing experience.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and stay tuned for more exciting events and updates from Cucinella! If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me at cperruso@wtschools.org.

Terracycle Fundraiser
WE WANT YOUR TRASH!!!
The PTO's Terracycle Committee has placed a new recycling collection box in the vestibule, to the left of the doors as you enter the building. The mission of this program is to collect home care and air care plastics, spray bottles and air fresheners. These are all items that would normally be thrown in the trash, but through Terracycle, we're able to keep these items out of landfills and raise money for the school in the process. This program will run throughout the school year, so start collecting your items to be recycled and contribute them to the collection box at your convenience.
For more information about this collection, visit https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/brigades/febreze-air-care?viewPDOInfo=false.
For more information about the PTO Terracycle Committee and to volunteer, please contact Lindsey Mason at lindseymason.m@gmail.com.
Pick Up Patrol
PickUp Patrol has been in effect for the past year and we are very happy with the positive feedback we have been receiving from the community. PickUp Patrol is used not only for drop off and pick up procedures, but also for recording your child's absences.
Please click here to review how to use the program to record absences.
Click here for more information about Pickup Patrol
If you have not received a "Welcome" email with details on how to download the app and set up your account, please contact our school secretaries and ask for a new one to be resent. If you have not downloaded the app or set up your account yet, please do so as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the secretaries, Mrs. Deanna Dargel or Mrs. Boomi Varathrajan.
Cucinella Lost and Found
If your child is missing something - coats, sweatshirts, hats, water bottles, etc. - please remind them to check our ever-growing lost and found. It is currently overflowing with items. The lost and found is currently located outside of the main office, near the main entrance. We are happy to help students if they are looking for something in particular. Please notify either your child's teacher or the main office secretaries if you need assistance.
Join Local Scouting
Interested in joining a local scouting program? Check out these flyers from Girls Troop 143 and Boys Troop 175. Joining scouting groups offers an exciting opportunity for students to engage in enriching activities and develop valuable skills. Scouts participate in a variety of adventurous outings, community service projects, and leadership opportunities that foster personal growth and camaraderie. Through scouting, students cultivate teamwork, responsibility, and a sense of civic duty while creating lasting memories and friendships. Join us in encouraging our students to explore the world of scouting and embark on an exciting journey of discovery and adventure!
