Marysville Getchell Student Artist Hailey Sawyers
Hailey Sawyers is a senior at Marysville Getchell High School. She’s been painting backdrops for the school for the last two years, including ones for assemblies, interhigh, and the life skills prom.
Last year, for the school's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assembly, she painted a portrait of Dr. King and wanted to do something different this year. Her inspiration for the artwork came from the idea that Dr. King wouldn’t want the holiday to be only a representation of him but of the Black community as well. She was inspired to showcase female empowerment while also incorporating her own artistic flair. This is her favorite piece she’s created.
After graduation, Hailey has big plans. She dreams of becoming a Forensic Scientist and has already been accepted to 7+ colleges, Pennsylvania State University and John Jay College of Criminal Justice being a few of her top choices, although she’s holding out for the Ivy League schools. She plans to continue growing in her art and would love to incorporate it into her career aspirations. She said she is interested in being a forensic sketch artist and would love to help solve crimes with her art.
Keep up the incredible artwork, Hailey, and never lose sight of your future plans and dreams! We look forward to seeing where your goals take you!
