Teachers, Staff, Parents, and Students,
RHMS Administration wishes all our teachers, staff and students a Happy Easter! We hope everyone gets to spend the four-day weekend surrounded by loved ones and spending time doing things that brings happiness to their lives. School will resume on Tuesday, April 2nd.
Next Wednesday our RHMS Honors and Symphonic Bands will be performing at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluation in Raymondville. We wish our students the best of luck and continued success!
This week will mark the third week of the 5th Six Weeks. Accordingly, progress reports will be issued out on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

RHMS Teacher of the Year 2024-2025
Congratulations to Ms. Laura E. Rodriguez (Ms. Laurie) for being nominated and selected as the Rio Hondo Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025! Ms. Rodriguez is assigned to 5th Grade Reading Language Arts. She has worked for the Rio Hondo Independent School District for a total of 18 years. In addition to teaching, Ms. Rodriguez also coaches a variety of sports and is always willing to go the extra mile to help our RHMS students succeed. A well deserved recognition!
Civics Bee Essay Contest
Over 100 middle school students from around the Rio Grande Valley participated in the Civics Bee Essay Contest. Joaquin Gonzales and Michael Perez were selected as finalists to compete in Brownsville on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Live Local Competition. They have a chance of winning $500. Congratulation to both boys. Kudos to Mr. Juan Castillo, 7th Grade Social Studies teacher for getting his students to participate in this awesome competition!

TIA Designated Teachers for RHMS
Congratulations to Mr. Michael Alvarez, 8th Grade Reading Language Arts Teacher at RHMS. Mr. Alvarez has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency as a Recognized TIA Designated Teacher.
Congratulations to Ms. Laurie Rodriguez, 5th Grade Reading Language Arts Teachers at RHMS. Ms. Rodriguez has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency as an Exemplary TIA Designated Teacher.
Mrs. Wilson's 5th Grade Science Classes
Mrs. Wilson's 5th grade Science classes are working on a lunar cycle project and the different characteristics of each moon phase.
Mrs. Davila's 6th Grade Social Studies
Mrs. Davila's 6th grade Social Studies classes participated in an ESCAPE ROOM activity. Embedded within the activity, students were able to review important information about the continent of Asia which is the unit currently being studied.
