Notes from East Hill Elementary
March 22, 2024
Dear East Hill Families,
Due to the weather forecast, the PTA Makerspace event that was scheduled for tomorrow morning (Saturday, March 23) is canceled. I would like to thank our PTA and volunteers for your hard work in preparing for this. I am hopeful that we can reschedule to a new date, stay tuned.
Thank you to The Rev Theatre Co. for their visit to our school this past Tuesday. Our Grade 2 students had a wonderful time interacting with the cast members and diving into the world of "The Magic Paintbrush." Each classroom had the opportunity to work closely with a cast member, exploring key vocabulary, meeting the characters, and even learning some Chinese in preparation for the skit. The culminating event, the performance of "The Magic Paintbrush" for the entire grade level, was a fantastic experience for our second graders and truly brought their learning to life.
Our third grade students enjoyed a field trip to the MOST today! The students enjoyed all of the interactive learning and shared with me they particularly enjoyed learning about the human body, space, dinosaurs, and the playhouse area! We have included pictures of the trip below.
Our second semester report cards for students will be available to parents and guardians on ParentVue starting at 5:00pm today. The report provides valuable insights into student’s academic progress and achievements over the past months. We encourage you to review the report card together with your child, celebrate their successes, and discuss any areas where they may need additional support or guidance.
Thank you to our PTA for purchasing solar glasses for all students for the eclipse that will be taking place on Monday, April 8. This week our students brought home a form with information about the certified glasses as well as a permission slip that can be returned to school. Students that return the slip will be given the glasses to take home.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
~Susan

Universal Pre-Kindergarten Registration Is Now Open
West Genesee partners with local Community-Based Organizations (CBO) for its Pre-K program.
To be eligible for UPK during the 2024-2025 school year, a child must:
- Have a birthdate between December 2, 2019 and December 1, 2020
- Reside in the West Genesee Central School District
In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the District will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random.
Those children who have completed the registration process by May 1, 2024 will be part of the initial selection process.
Families who were part of the initial selection process will be called in order of selection and informed:
- whether their child has been accepted to the program, and
- which site (including hours of the program) is available for their child;
OR
- where their child is on the waiting list.
Families will be contacted by May 2-3, 2024.
If at any point after the initial selection process there are more students registered than seats available, students will be placed on the waiting list in the order that their registration was completed.
Transportation to and from the program is the responsibility of the parents/guardians, and students must attend the program five days a week to maintain their seat.
Look for registration information on the Central Registration webpage at:
http://www.westgenesee.org/district-services/registration/. If you have any questions, email the Central Registrar at centralregistrar@westgenesee.org, or call Central Registration at at (315) 487-4683.

- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)

Students to Receive Free Breakfast and Lunch Meals
We are pleased to announce that all students enrolled at West Genesee CSD will be able to receive a FREE breakfast and lunch meal at school beginning December 1.
This implementation is a result of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) expanding access to the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP allows eligible schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs to offer school meals at no charge to all students.
What does this mean for your child(ren) attending the school(s) identified above?
Effective 12/1/2023, all students enrolled at West Genesee CSD will be able to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day regardless of the family’s household income. Milk is free with a full meal. No further action is required of you.
If you have any further questions, please contact Food Service at 315-487-4661.
Please click here to read a message to parents about free meals for students.
