The RC3 team member of the month program is designed to recognize a student from each academy for their outstanding performance. Team members are nominated by their instructional team for exhibiting excellent academic achievement and employability skills. Congratulations to our team members of the month.

Mrs. Sarah Cummings, Health Science teacher, is the RC3 team leader of the month. The RC3 team leader of the month program highlights a deserving RC3 teacher. Recommended by their students, these teachers exhibit excellence in teaching and inspire their students daily. One of her students wrote, "She is an amazing, hands on teacher that helps every student understand the work in the way that is easiest for them. She goes above and beyond every day to ensure that her students are learning. Her work ethic and kindness to every student amazes me." Congratulations Mrs. Cummings on a job well done.

I am a 2021 Graduate of the Health Science Academy. Currently, I am a Junior at Auburn University. I was accepted into Auburn's nursing program and was able to bypass nursing school interviews because of my academic standing. I will graduate nursing school in August 2025. In addition to attending nursing school, I work at the student center. Ultimately I want to work as a pediatric, NICU, or ER nurse. My favorite part about RC3 was the patient care technician class. I was able to get certified as a patient care technician while at RC3, which looked great on my resume. The class also gave me a wealth of knowledge and skills that have been very useful in my college courses.

On Friday, March 1st Culinary and Hospitality Team Member Fabian Gutierrez competed in the Jefferson County Regional Jr. and Sr. High School Beef Cook-Off. Because of the short notice and Fabian’s prior commitment to participating in the Hoover Restaurant Iron Chef Competition, Fabian only had one day to prepare. The contest is hosted by the Catttlemen’s Association and only the winner can advance to the state competition. We are pleased to announce that Fabian Gutierrez is the regional winner for the Beef Cook-Off.

RC3 faculty, staff, and students celebrated the accomplishments of African Americans during the month of February by engaging in a school-wide breakout game. Students collected clues all month based on the theme: One For the Books, The Story Behind the Story. In addition, students completed projects in their math and English classes that incorporated black history. In Mrs. Thompson's math classes, students used their knowledge of mathematics to design a clock face using their creativity to connect what they learned about Benjamin Banneker and his contributions to mathematics. In Mrs. Parramore's English classes, students studied connotations, denotation, diction, tone and theme and created "Found Poems" using words of the African American award winning author, Sharon Draper, and her novel Copper Sun.

Last week, 34 students from the Health Science Academy traveled to Montgomery and competed in HOSA's State Leadership Conference. These students competed against other students from school districts throughout Alabama in healthcare related events and placed within the top 6 in the state:

• Trinity Dailey - 1st Place
• Jordan Ingram - 2nd Place
• Natalie Self & Alise Caputo - 2nd Place in Team Event

• Lily Matheson - 3rd Place

In addition, Avonlea Campbell, Caitlyn Bingel, Ashaaz Daredia, and Naveen Towhid were state finalists in their respective events. Several students received special recognitions at the conference this year. These students represented RC3 well, and we are so proud of them.

Founded in 1995, as the charitable arm of the Home Builders Association of Alabama, the Alabama Home Builders Foundation’s goal is to educate people of all ages about opportunities in the residential construction industry. To help achieve this goal, the Foundation offers scholarships to those students who are studying a residential trade such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or construction management. They must be a resident of Alabama. They must be attending or enrolling in an accredited community college, technical school, university or approved vocational school in Alabama.

The deadline for application is March 15.

RC3 Attendance Policy - Review the attendance policy by clicking HERE

If the student will not attend for any reason on a scheduled attendance day, the student is required to email RC3 to inform us of the absence. Please email at: rc3main@hoover.k12.al.us at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled arrival time.

Please be aware that RC3 attendance policy and procedures may differ from your base school.

Parents, if your student tests positive for COVID, you may refer to your physician for guidelines. Hoover City Schools policy states students need to remain at home if they have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher. They must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication in order to return to school.

May 23: HHS Graduation at Bartow Arena at 6:00pm

May 22: SPHS Graduation at Samford University Pete Hanna Center at 5:00pm

You MUST park in your assigned space every day. If you do not have an assigned parking space at RC3, you are NOT allowed to park on the campus.

Driving to RC3 is a privilege, not a right. There are consequences for failing to follow all rules associated with driving to and from RC3. For questions or concerns, please see Officer Thomas.
