The students have been rather tired lately. Check out the two articles below.
We have had a lot of tired kids lately. Here is an article from the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia that has some good suggestions whether it is daylight savings time or not.
https://www.chop.edu/news/health-tip/5-ways-help-kids-adjust-daylight-saving-time
The article gives information about good sleep habits including specifics about the following:
- Keep it consistent.
- Limit screen time before bed.
- Keep the routine short and sweet.
- Keep moving toward the bedroom.
- Help kids develop healthy sleep associations.
Here is another article about how lack of sleep can affect the students:
https://www.sleepfoundation.org/children-and-sleep/sleep-and-school-performance
From the article, a direct way that sleep and school performance are connected is through effects on mental function. Some known problems associated with lack of sleep include:
- Decreased attention
- Impaired memory
- Slowed processing
- Worsened sequential thinking
- Reduced creativity
Sleep deprivation can also detract from school performance because of various effects on mood and behavior:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness
- Poor decision-making
- Aggression
- Irritability and mood
- Hyperactivity
- Depression and Anxiety
