Shout-Outs
- Shout-out to our Freshmen of the Week from the week before break! Kylie Jaquess comes to us from Morris Middle. Here at Lee she is in the photography magnet and plays on the girls basketball team. In her spare time she likes to hang out with her nephews and go to the gym and play basketball. When she graduates from high school she wants to go to college to be a sports promoter. Her favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Bacik because she does everything she can to make sure that students are on the right track even when it’s hard. Gabriel Curtis-Wallick comes to us from ASFL Middle. At Lee, he is in the film and video magnet and is on the football team. In his spare time, Gabriel enjoys drawing and going for walks. When he graduates from high school he would like to go to college to study to be a graphic designer. His favorite teacher at Lee is Mr. Lee because he class is really fun and the he does a great job of explaining what students need to do. Congratulations to both of them for representing our FamiLEE values so well!

From the Desk of the Magnet Directors
Theatre Magnet Director- Mr. Kisor
The Theatre department is in full on Little Mermaid at the moment. We open April 4th! Our cast is doing a great job during rehearsals and the crew is really bringing the set to life!
- Hello everyone!! We have made so much progress on the build for The Little Mermaid. Yay!! That being said, we still have plenty to do. There are several build opportunities during and after spring break. Please check out the Sign up Genius on Schoology and the above dates for volunteer parent calls and other work calls.
- Once we start the 4th 9 weeks, the next hours’ milestone will be the full 60 hours due at the end of the semester. Opportunity for sign ups decreases after the show closes, so please keep that in mind.
- Our Coral Projects came out great!! We still need a lot more to help fill up the Little Mermaid set so please keep them coming.
- I hope everyone has a restful spring break. Pictured below are some of our students’ coral projects.
Creative Writing Magnet Director- Ms. Sisson
- The lit mag team is gearing up to submit their first proof of the lit mag for edits. We are still trying to get correct artist names and high resolution files.
- The social media design team will begin their campaign after spring break. They have created their templates for multiple shout out and are now choosing literary quotes, judge critiques, pictures of lit mag team and edits.
- All the authors submitted their poetry and prose submissions to the Huntsville Literary Association’s Young Writers contest the week.
- Also, on Wednesday, five of our poets traveled to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival to compete in the Poetry Out Loud finals. They represented our school and themselves flawlessly. Aliyah Potter, third year, returned with 2nd place for her original poetry performance.
Visual Arts Magnet Directors- Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Radowski
- Painting- Finishing up personal still life paintings, will start new projects after spring break
- Drawing - Finishing up personal style surrealism landscape or portrait in oil pastel, will start new projects after spring break
- V.A. Magnet 4: We have 6 students whose work is on display at the Huntsville Museum of art now until April 29th. Work is located downstairs in the Children’s Gallery.
- Students are learning about the reductive printmaking process. Students will be creating an original work of art using this print process. This is an experimental process that can be incorporated into their senior portfolio.
- Ceramics: Students are experimenting with a variety of glazing and construction techniques to create a functional work of art that also fits their personal aesthetic.
Film and Video Director- Mr. Lee
- On Tuesday 03/05, we were lucky enough to film on location at Forced Inductions in Hazel Green. We teamed with Math Nation, a national education organization that provides practical math lessons from successful industries all over the country. We filmed 3 lessons with the workers and owner of Forced Inductions, hosted by Math Nation’s Tiffany Arnold and New Century Math Teacher Cornelius Williams. Those educational videos will be shown in Middle School and High School math classes in Alabama and other partner States. Film & Video Students with the assistance of other members of the Performing Arts Conservatory gained valuable practical experience filming on location. They developed a first hand understanding of the technical requirements, problem solving challenges, and the reward of a job well done.
- Thank you to the following students for their hard work and dedication: Jayla Tillman, Elvis Manzanarez-Torres, Rebekah Moore, Arionne Sanders, Kya Taylor, Tim Perkins, Jenna Rutherford, Aleah Lawson, Riley Sauls, Miriam Bentley, Sarah Vorpagel, Clay Brizendine
- Enjoy the behind the scenes pictures below!
