Staff Spotlight
Becca Hart, English Teacher; Yearbook Advisor; Equity TOSA
Q: Do you play any sports?
A: I was a track athlete all through high school and college at a D1 university. My best event was triple jump. I used to coach and hope to begin coaching again someday in the future when my three kiddos are older.
Q: What's the best place you've traveled to?
A: Cinque Terre, Italy (while studying abroad in college)
Q: What's the best concert you've been to?
A: Taylor Swift: Era's Tour
Q: What's the best book you've read recently?
A: I just re-read Their Eyes Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston and all other novels I have read recently simply do not compare. This work is exquisite.
Q: What's your favorite movie?
A: Pride and Prejudice (the 2005 version) -- I used have a mug with this quote: "What excellent boiled potatoes" but it tragically broke.
Pre-ACT for Sophomores on Tuesday, March 19

All other items, including phones and snacks, will be put in backpacks at the back of the gym for the duration of testing. Students will miss periods 5, 6 and homeroom that day; they will be marked field trip (FT) during those periods. Attendance will be taken in the exam and updated in StudentVUE.

Liberation Scholars at George Fox University
A free pre-college summer seminar developed for Latina/o students (June 20 to July 3, 2024)
This summer, George Fox University is hosting a free two-week seminar for Latino/a students who wish to expand their knowledge, chart their future, and equip themselves to be leaders and difference makers in their communities.
Consider becoming a Liberation Scholar! Application is due April 1, 2024.
Program Details
- High-achieving students are invited to live on the George Fox campus to read and discuss great works of philosophy, literature and history. It is specifically for Latina/o students in Class of 2025.
- Tuition/room and board are free!
- It is open to current Latina/o juniors who are curious, love to read, and want to discuss big ideas with friends (like what it means to be free)!
- The course is text-based, writing-based and discussion-based, so students should expect to read a lot, work on their writing, and be open to sharing their ideas.
- During the 2024-25 academic year, a team of George Fox faculty, staff and undergraduate students will continue to work with the Liberation Scholars to help with the college admissions process, seeking scholarships, gaining strategies to succeed in college, and developing leadership skills.
👟Track & Field👟
The first track meet was March 15th at Clatskanie. "What an amazing first meet of the season. I am so proud of our student athletes. They competed hard, and more importantly, they represented our team, our school and our community well. I was so impressed by the conduct and effort of our athletes." Coach Rondema explained after the meet. The following athletes set Personal Records: Sophie (Long Jump), Ava (Javelin, LJ), Olivia (100, 400, 800), Abigail (Shot Put, Javelin), Jesse G (800, LJ), Joey (100, 400, 4x100), Nathan (LJ), Natalie (100), Haley (Javelin), Logan Auble (400, LJ), Matthew (Discus, Shot), River (LJ), Tyler (Discus, 100, Shot), Caiden (100, 200, LJ, 4x100), Flynn (100, 200, Javelin), Thatcher (100, 400), Jessie (100), Anna (800, LJ, Javelin), Johnny (200, 4x100), Jack (LJ), Logan Matias (100, LJ, 4x100), Jaden (100, 200, Javelin, LJ, 4x100), Ashlyn (Javelin, LJ, Shot), Enrique (LJ, 800), Cooper (Javelin, Shot) and Henry Vockert (100, 200, 4x100).
For those of you keeping score, that’s 58 races or events that our athletes did better in today than they have ever done. For an athlete to get one Personal Record in a meet is impressive. Coach Rondema said, "To have 58 PRs set by our team in our first meet of the season is so much more than we as coaches could have hoped for."
Sophie Bergvist (1st in Pole Vault and 3rd in Triple Jump) and Olivia McGrew(2nd in the 400 and the 800) both placed in the top 3 in their events/races, and so did Ava Blatchford, who placed first in the long jump. Both x100 teams (Logan M, Joey, Caiden and Henry V; Jaden, Johnny, Trenton and Nathan) broke 50 seconds in their races which surpassed the coaches' hopes for their first meet.
Sophie set a Corbett grade level record in Pole Vault, becoming the Senior woman with the highest vault in school history.
The Track and Field captains for 2024 were announced. Ava Blatchford, Olivia McGrew, Nathan Mack and Joey Kirnan have been recognized by their peers for their leadership on the team. The coaches have no doubt they will encourage their teammates and help all Corbett athletes be their best.
