Greetings, USD Family and Friends,
The week started with a lot of excitement as our students experienced the culmination of weeks of teaching and learning, and all of our K-12 students enjoyed the mystery of the solar eclipse. The district provided the appropriate glasses, and our teachers provided curiosity and instruction. It was a great learning experience, and I am thankful that our students and staff were able to experience it together.
Thursday evening was opening night for Urbana Middle Schoolās Broadway on Vineās 2024 Little Mermaid Jr. It was a fantastic show. The next and final show is Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The students have worked very hard on their performance and would love to have a full house on Saturday. Here is a teaser!
Next week, the Board will finalize their discussion and vote on a final elementary boundary plan. The Board will also welcome a new member, USD116 retiree Jennifer Hixson. Mrs. Hixson will fill the sub-district #2 vacancy and will be sworn in prior to the action on finalizing the boundary map. If you still want to preview the Concept maps, see the linked presentation, Concept 1 and Concept 2 maps.
One of our next big events is Kindergarten Registration on April 24 at Lincoln Square Mall, 10:30-5:30 p.m. If you are a new family to the district with a young child that will be five years old on or before September 1st, or you are a returning family with a 5-year-old sibling, please see the attached flyers for more information: English, Spanish, French. Many staff will be available to assist you and answer your questions about redistricting, petitioning, etc. For families registering for Kindergarten, we are excited to offer you a jumpstart on your school year through the Kindergarten Readiness Camp. This year, we are hosting the Kindergarten camp in August, so that the new learning they experience will immediately follow your child into Kindergarten! Find out more information and sign up at Kindergarten Registration on April 24th!
If you are interested in our other summer activities, please contact your school for more information.
Stay safe,
