๐ MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SUMMER ๐
Learn something new !!
Start thinking about your life after school, including the types of jobs that might interest you. These may change โ often โ but itโs good to start thinking about the possibilities. Future employers AND colleges look for students who pursue meaningful activities so summer is great time to start!
Here are a few ways to get yourself thinking and motivated throughout the summer!
- Identify your interests โ likes & dislikes โ not just in classes but also in every area. This will help you focus on your goals
- Ask your network; Talk to New people --Besides talking to your friends, consider talking to family, friends of family, school counselor, teachers, professionals in the community, etc., about activities, careers, opportunities that you might find interesting.
- Take a career interest quiz! Take this easy free 10-minute quiz to get matched with careers based on your likes and dislikes.
- Get involved! Try something new!
- Volunteer for an organization or cause you care about
- Look for a summer job or internship position that will help you learn about a field of your interest.
- Check out summer youth career programs (see below in Summer Youth Career Readiness Programs in Oregon) -- there are many free ones!
- Tour college campuses (in-person or virtually)! If possible, take advantage of summer break to visit colleges and see what they're like. Even if you have no interest in attending the college you're visiting. It will help you learn what you WANT and DO NOT want for a college experience. Learn about qualifications and requirements, apprenticeship occupations, program benefits and more, followed by an open discussion with Coordinators from specific trade apprenticeships. Anyone interested in learning more about apprenticeships is welcome!

Summer Youth Career Readiness Programs
Many colleges and organizations in Oregon offer summer camps and programs
Learn something new, build your leadership skills, explore careers and of course, have fun! Oregon Goes to to College listed every Oregon community college & universities that have programs for middle and high school programs! Summer Youth Employment Opportunities
- BankWork$ Program - a unique, FREE 8-week industry-support training program that prepares participants for a career with stability and opportunity for advancement in the financial services industry. Ideally for students with high diploma
First Camp: Hosted by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, this camp will take place on the TVF&R training grounds located in Sherwood, OR.

College Events
Making College Possible with Common App
Register for NACAC's learning lab focused on preparing to support the class of 2025 as they apply to college in the fall. It will feature a presentation by the Common App on their equity initiatives and efforts to guide students to access, afford, and attain higher education. Following the presentation, representatives from the the AXS Companion will join in to give a demonstration of their toolkit, including step-by-step video tutorials, designed to guide counselors and students through the Common App.

Oregon Private College Week
Twelve of Oregonโs private, independent colleges host concurrent sessions that offer informational presentations about admissions, financial aid, and academic programs. Visit up to ten schools in five days for FREE! Registration closes Friday, July 26.
