March 6th, 2024
Greetings from Mr. E
Greetings, Jefferson! Well, it is already March. That means the start of the 4th Quarter and the downhill slide to the end of the year. This time of year seems to go very fast and furious with Spring Break and Easter Break falling within a month of each other. Activities include Kindergarten Round-up, Family Fun Night, 3rd Grade release the trout, 5th DARE graduation and 5th Grade recognition, and Field Day…just to name a few.
ATTENDANCE
I would like to clarify some information on ATTENDANCE.
It is important for your student(s) to be in school. It is the law.
We send out absence letters after 5, 10, 15, and 20 absences. These are reminders for how many days your child has missed. They are form letters, though I do sign each and every one of them that go out. No matter what school you have children in in North Platte Public Schools, you will receive these.
Once a student hits 20 absences, for ANY reason, the absences are turned over to the County Attorney, STATE LAW. Once the County Attorney's office receives the report, they will investigate and decide whether or not to proceed with court.
If your child has had appointments with doctors, dentists, counselors, etc; it is important to get notes and turn them into the office upon your child’s return so the notes can be documented.
If your child exceeds 10 to 15 days, I will contact you to set up an attendance plan meeting so we can discuss your situation and document it.
If you have questions about absences, feel free to call me. I would be happy to discuss it with you.
PTO
We are really needing some people to step up and take over the reins of the PTO as the ladies currently serving are “BURNED OUT!” They do amazing things for us and help out with several activities throughout the school year. They have been on the PTO for three or more years and need a break. If there is anyone interested, please reach out to me or the PTO members: Randa Musil; Chandra Stroud; Kelsey Shrum. If we have no takers, we may have to disband the PTO at the end of the school year. Please consider. Again, the next meeting will be Tuesday, March 5, 6:00pm in the Jefferson Elementary Library. We typically meet on the first Tuesday of the month each month.
Spring Break:
Thursday March 7 thru Monday March 11. School will resume on Tuesday March 12. However, there will be no school on Friday, March 15, as we have a Professional Development Day for teachers that day, District wide.
Kindergarten Round-up
Tuesday, March 19, 5:30-6:30 pm. If you have a student that will be in Kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year, we would love you to bring your student and get some important information and the Kindergarten teachers will take some time to get to know your student. Always a lot of fun. We hope to see you then!
FAMILY FUN NIGHT
The date is Friday, March 22. Put it on your calendar. It will be a lot of fun! More information to come.
Easter Break
Friday, March 29 thru Tuesday, April 2. School will resume on Wednesday, April 3.
Staffing:
Welcome back Mr. Matt Epley taking over PE through the rest of the year.
We are a little short on paras, currently. Mrs. Emilee Henne is student teaching with Mrs. Paul in 2nd Grade and Mrs. Bodenus in 4th Grade. Mrs. Keck is student teaching with Mrs. Bourke in Kindergarten.
We will have some staff leaving at the end of the year. Some positions we have already filled for next year with just a couple of more positions to fill. More on that next month.
IS THIS GUY THROUGH, YET?
I really appreciate all of you supporting our school the way you do. If there are questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call: (308) 535-7136; or email: jellsworth@nppsd.org.

Notes from the Nurse
PBIS
The Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Team has been getting together each month to discuss data that students present with academics and behaviors we can assist with during the school day. We are seeing great success with the interventions we are implementing school wide! With our return to school we will have all classes reteach the school expectations within the building and on the playground. This review will help students be successful in remembering how to behave in different situations while within the building. Please take a few moments to discuss with your child the different rules/guidelines that they need to follow at school (in the classroom, hallways, bathroom, playground, etc.) and talk about how they are the same or different from the rules you use at home! Thank you again for your support!
