Five Good Things in Spring

Tickled 'Pink' and reporting live
Future star alert! Caitlyn Tillman, a 3rd-grader at Thompson ES, may be young, but she's already got a pretty good idea of what she wants to be when she grows up. Back in 2021, when Caitlyn was in kindergarten, she dressed up as Fox Sports reporter Kristina Pink for her CTE Career Day poster. Kristina heard about the project, and they met up on the sidelines when Caitlyn attended her very first NFL game. Flash forward three years to last week's Texans vs Saints showdown. Kristina was back in town to cover the game and met up with Caitlyn again! Caitlyn is clearly a good luck charm, because the Texans beat the Saints, 20 to 13. You can see Kristina Pink's original Instagram post from 2021 here.
You definitely know that our Maintenance Department team members work hard across Spring ISD to make sure all of our district buildings are in tip-top shape. But did you know that the press box at Planet Ford Stadium is used throughout football season to host different department teams each week to watch the game, hang out outside of work, and have a little fun? (Team Spring perk!) And at the Dekaney vs. Aldine game a week ago, it was the Maintenance team's turn! Check out a few photos from the Friday Night Lights fun on the @sisdmaintenance account.
All through last week, at a high school named Spring, over 45 students have been sharing a thing. A musical, if you will, all about Dr. Seuss; live on stage (what a thrill!) that is about to vamoose. But wait! Oh no! You've got one last chance this week. To see it, this musical, of which we so highly speak. But to guide you and keep this from being a bore, we're going to stop — right now — and won't rhyme anymore! Here's the non-rhyming version: Spring HS Lion Players are putting on Seussical, a musical that brings to life the characters of Dr. Seuss. Think Horton, the Cat in the Hat, various Whos, and Things 1 and 2. All last week, the hard-working students have been putting on the musical for first and second graders across Spring ISD. (Check out these shots from Tuesday's performance from Johnny Williams, the district's Coordinator of Arts Integration.) There have been public performances as well, but there's only one more performance! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 24, and get your tickets at www.lionplayerstheatrecompany.com.
The latest in educational technology at work in the classroom? You love to see it! Teachers at Salyers Elementary started off last week strong when they found brand-new digital whiteboards in their classrooms. This tech upgrade is thanks to funds from the 2022 Bond, which was fully funded by YOU and Spring ISD voters. (Thanks for that, by the way!) Check out this post from Maritza Villamil, a dual language teacher at Salyers, for more.
Best Wednesday ever! Every year, the Houston Symphony teams up with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands (hey neighbors) to present the Fine Arts Education Day for Spring ISD 5th-graders. Every single 5th-grader in Spring — yes, all 3,000 of them — get to attend for free to learn more about classical music, audience etiquette, and the ways music is made. Check out this Instagram Reel for some highlights from the amazing day.
