Morris Elementary School
Weekl of April 1st
Hello Parents and Guardians,
Science Fair - April 1st:
We are just a day away from the Morris Elementary Science Fair on Monday, April 1st from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Please join us to meet the future scientists and researchers from the Berkshires. We are also thrilled to once again have LMMHS students volunteering their time to judge our projects in the 3rd - 5th grade.
We hope you can swing by for this special event!
Fifth Grade Bake Sale:
Support our fifth-grade students as they fundraise for their end-of-year field trip by indulging in some delicious treats at their bake sale during the Science Fair. Your sweet tooth will not only be satisfied, but you'll also be contributing to a great cause!
MCAS Testing:
MCAS testing for our fifth-grade students begins this Tuesday. Rest assured that our students are well-prepared for this state assessment, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our teachers and staff.
The state has a policy that no student should have their cell phone of smart watch on them during testing. Students who were a smartwatch to school will be asked to put it on the teacher's desk during testing.
Celebrating Our Paraprofessionals:
This week, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of our paraprofessionals at Morris Elementary School. They play a crucial role in supporting our students in academic settings and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment during lunch and recess. Please take a moment to express your gratitude to these wonderful individuals.
Sheylimar Olavarria has join the Morris Community as a Special Education Paraprofessional. She is coming to us from Hillcrest Educational School where she worked as a teacher assistant and has experience working with students with a variety of needs.
School Librarian Appreciation Day
Join us in showing appreciation for our fantastic school librarian, Ms. Tone, on Thursday. Ms. Tone works tirelessly to ensure our library is stocked with a diverse selection of books to inspire and educate our students. Encourage your children to create a special thank-you card for Ms. Tone to show her how much we appreciate her dedication and hard work.
As always, thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we can make Morris Elementary School a place where every child thrives.
The Student Opportunity Act
Lenox Public School system is looking to increase some of the supports in our Multi-Tiered System of Supports for all students, but particularly high needs students, over the next 3 years and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. This is a three-year initiative aligns perfectly with the state's Student Opportunity Act. The Student Opportunity Act ushered in a new phase in the Commonwealth's commitment to ensuring that every student in the state experiences high-quality learning opportunities that lead to success in school and in postsecondary success. Overall, Massachusetts leads the nation on many measures of student learning experiences, student achievement, and postsecondary success for its students. However, a closer look reveals inequitable gaps in experiences and outcomes across racial and ethnic groups, in economically disadvantaged communities compared to higher income communities, for students with disabilities relative to their non-disabled peers, and for English learners compared to students whose first language is English. The SOA provides funding for plans submitted by school districts to address how they intend to address closing achievement gaps.
MCAS TESTING SCHEDULE
As we approach the upcoming state testing period, I want to remind you of the significance of regular attendance during this critical time. The state testing schedule plays a pivotal role in assessing our students' academic progress and providing valuable insights into their learning achievements.
