A MESSAGE FROM THE ELEMENTARY OFFICE
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back from what I hope was a rejuvenating and enjoyable spring break! As we dive back into the school routine, I wanted to take a moment to update you on some important matters and exciting initiatives happening here at ACES.
First, as we return, we're gearing up for the ILEARN state testing season. This assessment is an important benchmark for our students and our school. Within this newsletter you will find more detailed information about schedules and preparation strategies in the coming weeks.
With the changing weather, it's essential to ensure our students are dressed appropriately. As temperatures fluctuate, please remind your children to bring coats or jackets to school. Ensuring they're comfortable and prepared for outdoor activities is vital for their well-being during this transitional period. As the indoor temperatures are adjusted as well, a sweater or sweatshirt may be needed in the classroom.
I'm thrilled to share that our dedicated staff is currently engaged in a reading adoption process and piloting various programs. This initiative is aimed at enhancing our literacy curriculum and providing our students with the best possible resources to foster a love for reading and learning. In the near future, we'll be inviting the community to participate in reviewing the materials we're considering. Your input and involvement are invaluable as we strive to shape our educational programs to meet the needs of our students effectively.
As always, your partnership and support are crucial to the success of our students and our school community. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Together, we can ensure that the remainder of the school year is both productive and enriching for our students.
Thank you for your continued support, and let's make the most of the upcoming weeks!
Warm regards,
Mary McCullough Elementary Principal
2024-2025 KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP AND SCREENING
Kindergarten Round Up will be held Feb 26 - March 1. During this time, families need to stop by the Elementary Office to pick up Kindergarten Packets and schedule their kindergartener's screening for Friday, April 12.
FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN EVENT
Our school will host a Feed My Starving Children MobilePack on Friday, April 5 during the school day. Due to the generous donations of our school community, the Sunshine Society was able to raise $62,000 so that over 200,000 meals can be packed and sent to countries in need. In addition to packing the meals, the Sunshine Society will host a food drive to stock the shelves of the Monroe Lighthouse Bread of Life food pantry, which provides commodities to the Adams County community twice a month. Our goal is one non-perishable food item per student, thus providing 1200 items to the pantry. On Friday, April 5, please send a non-perishable food item with your student. Thank you for your generous support of the Sunshine Society’s fundraising efforts with both the MobilePack and the food drive.
Please contact Krista Jauregui at jaureguik@accs.k12.in.us with questions.
COUNSELORS' CORNER
Welcome back from a relaxing Spring Break. We hope you enjoyed your time with your family! As we enter back into school it’s very important to still give our best effort until the end of the year!
We will also be getting into the testing season for grades 3-5. With ILEARN upon us please remember a few helpful tips.
Get a good night's sleep! Sleep fuels our brains and helps us concentrate.
Eat a breakfast high in protein as this will help bellies feel fuller longer and gives brains the power to think!
Review strategies with your students to stay calm. Deep breaths! Have them show you their belly breathing!
Remind them to take their time, read the ENTIRE question and ALL the answers before selecting their choice!
Review your work before you submit!
TAKE YOUR TIME! These tests are not timed and although we like to be the 1st one done, it’s not a race!
Remind your students these 2 things before they head off to school: YOU ARE SMART! YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!
With your help we are confident our testing will go smoothly!
Once again thank you for allowing us the privilege of working with your students!
