Dear Wauwatosa Montessori School Family,

We hope to see everyone at Literacy Night next week Tuesday, March 12th from 5:30-7 p.m.! Check out the flier below! You’ll see parents, staff, and AP students heading activities. We’ll also have food and drinks available set up by AP Inc.! Thank you to Kelly Di Giacinto, Erin Quasney, Ming Hwong, and Meghan Kroll for donating trivia prizes. We’ll be doing our final raffle next week, so please help your child to complete the trivia questions!

This week we had a special assembly to honor our Battle of the Books participants, including our two teams that placed in the state competition! Congratulations to all students who participated. Sean Muldoon, Preston Jacobs, Nathan Yenter, and Tyler Fritch’s team The Rampaging Readers placed 2nd in state! Congratulations! Robin Thomas, Colette Ford, Skyler Anderson, and Ellie Lakatos’s team The Four Barbie Bobs placed 4th in state! We are so proud of our students! Thank you to their coaches Jen Jacobs and Monica Anderson! Thank you to Sally Courtney for organizing our teams this year! Thank you to all of our coaches!

We also held various Read Across America activities this week. Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading with the theme: Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers.

A special thank you to Ming Hwong and Amy Randall for all your help with getting out letters for Nature’s Classroom Institute trip payments due. This took a lot of consideration and we were excited to see that due to all the fundraising efforts, we could bring the cost down further than we had originally thought! We are super grateful for all the family support and our Upper Elementary trip is just a week away now! Final NCI payments for UE And AP are due March 14th. Checks can be made out to Wauwatosa Montessori School.

Please note: We had several students come this morning for roller blading and were pretty upset when they weren't able to participate because they didn't have a helmet.

For the safety of the student(s), please make sure your student(s) have a helmet when they want to roller blade; just like they did when they had the roller blade unit in gym class.

MOD Pizza Fundraiser

March 20, 10:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Bring the kids to MOD Pizza to watch as their custom pizza is made right in front of them! This fundraiser is all day on Wednesday, March 20th, with 25% of proceeds going back to the Wauwatosa Montessori PTSA. Be sure to use the code MODGIVES25 for any online or mobile orders. Dollars raised help us provide bussing for school field trips, host school community building activities and more!

The PTSA’s Annual Trivia Night will be returning on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 PM. Parents, caregivers, teachers, other adults – start planning for your team of up to 8. As usual, the event will be bring-your-own-beverage and snacks of choice! Registration info coming soon.

Clinic is being held at Wauwatosa East High School on Saturday, April 13th from 9-12pm. All students in K5 through 8th grade are welcome.

The Elementary Band Department is excited to announce the Elementary Band Festival on Wed. March 13th, 2024 at Wauwatosa West High School at 7:00pm. Over 200 students in the 5th grade band program will be performing select works covering a range of styles and genres. There will also be a special guest appearance of the Tosa East and West High School bands. All are welcome to come celebrate the accomplishments of our young musicians!

My name is Jen Jacobs, mom to Olivia in 5K and Preston in 5th. I also am the co-editor of the Oak Tree Oracle, our student-led newsletter. Hopefully you all have been enjoying the “news” from the classrooms! Up until now, the newsletter has been run completely by students in Mrs. Namboothiry’s upper elementary class but I am so excited to be adding student reporters from Ms. Emily’s class as well! They will have a special section featuring student achievements outside the classroom. For example, do you have a child that sings? Plays the drums? Is a karate black belt? Dancer? Theater performer? We want to hear about it and celebrate them! If you and your child are okay with them being featured in the newsletter, please email the Oak Tree Oracle with the student and a picture if available of them doing it is what they do so our student reporters can interview them. And if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me as well.

WSD Parent University: Raising Culturally Competent Children: Embracing Diversity in Families

March 12, 2024: Fisher Conference Room C, 6:00-7:00 pm

This session will serve as a guide for parents seeking to create an inclusive and culturally aware family environment. It explores how embracing diversity enriches children’s lives and prepares them to be global citizens who value and respect people from all walks of life. Through interactive discussions and engaging activities, we will explore ways to instill a deep appreciation for different cultures, backgrounds and perspectives.
