LISD Expect Excellence Newsletter
January 15th, 2024
Hello Levelland Lobos. Our first week of the second semester was a fast one. I know this entire semester will follow suit. The weather this week is definitely frigid. I hope you are all finding a way to stay warm. During this time, be the warmth that someone needs. You never know what someone is going through and your kindness can help in so many ways.
Go Lobos!

Best Regards,

All Things LISD..................
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's Birthday!
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! This Day honors the American clergyman, activist, and Civil Rights Movement leader. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) who is best known for his role in advancing civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience. King has become a national icon in the history of American progressivism. We think of him many days, but especially today as we take time in class to celebrate his life and accomplishments!
Davanee Jaramillo makes a difference!
It's cold outside, but this story will warm you up! LISD has the most compassionate students! This Capitol Elementary School second-grader raised money to make 100 care bags for the homeless. With a little help from friends and family, Davenee Jaramillo raised the money, brought everyone together, and made a difference for so many! Davanee, you are amazing and we are so proud of you and your loving heart!
Mosaics
LHS students were caught recycling old construction paper to make Mosaic Texas Artwork for our School Board Appreciation meeting this Wednesday. Levelland is the City of Mosaics, and Keep Levelland Beautiful challenged this group of kids to create mosaic art for School Board Appreciation Month after learning a Waste In Place lesson on recycling. What could they easily recycle? What could they create into a mosaic? Paper, of course! These students used their problem-solving skills and enjoyed finding, cutting, gluing and recycling the old construction paper pieces found around campus and they learned more about why Levelland is famous! Thank you for keeping Levelland beautiful and for the art to show appreciation to our school board! They will just love it! Thank you to Mrs. Scoggins, Miss VanZandt & Mrs. Cason for your help with this endeavor.
Annual Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser
South Elementary's Student Council attended the Children's Miracle Network kickoff event in Lubbock! They were accompanied by their sponsors, Kayla Belcher and Lacey Guzman who #expectexcellence. While at this event, these students heard from children who have benefited from the donations made to CMN. Fourth-grader Hunner Tomasini spoke at the event and explained some of the things South kids have done in past years to raise money! These student council representatives will head up South's Annual Fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network in March. In past years students have brought pennies, dressed up, and even taped Mrs. Eugenis to the wall! This is a great fundraiser that helps children in our area. We will be watching to see how much money you raise!
