Progress reports will be sent home in boomerangs on Friday, April 12. We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher with questions or concerns.

Open enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year begins April 22, 2024. A link will be available on the Montesano School District website at www.monteschools.org to enroll NEW students using the Skyward Family Access system. Proof of age, immunization records, and proof of residency are required at the time of enrollment for all students. Students already attending Montesano schools do not need to re-enroll.

Parent input week is scheduled for April 22 – April 26 for both Beacon Elementary and Simpson Elementary. If you would like to provide input regarding your child's learning style or needs for the upcoming school year, please complete the online form by clicking on the link below. All submissions will be taken into consideration by the principals.

Responses will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. on April 22 until 3:00 p.m. on April 26.

Montesano School District has partnered with Big Smiles to offer dental care at school. Services will be provided on May 9 at the Jr/Sr High School for all students who sign up. School staff will transport students to and from the high school via a MSD bus or van. Sign up your child for services at www.myschooldentist.com.

Big Smiles Dental Day

Simpson students will be participating in state testing in the month of May. 3rd and 4th grade students will be testing the first two weeks of May. 5th and 6th grade students will be testing the last two weeks of May. More details will be shared as the dates get closer.

Please ensure your child is getting plenty of rest, eating a nutritious breakfast, and arriving on time on testing days. Schedule appointments outside of testing times and communicate with your child's teacher if an absence is unavoidable. Students who are absent on a testing day will have to make up the test upon return.

Grays Harbor Youth Backpack Program is a local nonprofit organization that assists school aged children that are dependent on school food programs. They help ensure kids in Grays Harbor have nutritional food over the weekends. They have generously provided Simpson with a few bags of food to send home with students should there be a need. Please feel free to reach out to the school office if this is something you are interested in for your child.

Fort those who haven't heard the challenging news, our Montesano High School Principal, Alec Pugh, has recently been diagnosed with cancer. If you would like to show your support for Mr. Pugh, Alec's Army/Monte Strong silicone bracelets are available for sale in the Simpson office for $5 each (cash only). All proceeds will go to the Pugh family.

Each month, Simpson students focus on developing specific character traits. Students learn what it looks like to exhibit these traits and are recognized for demonstrating them inside and outside of the classroom. March's character trait was "responsibility." Congratulations to March's Bulldogs of the Month: Brooklynn S., Kamden W., Audrey T., Mary Kate S., Oliver C., Natalie B., Penelope V., Kacelynn Y., Caroline H., Aria K., Kylie H., Connor J., Austin S., Silvia B., Sammie L., Trey G., Hadleigh R., and Katie S.

Students will focus on "diligence" as the character trait for the month of April.

Although spring is officially here, our weather is still fluctuating. The weather can appear mild and then change rapidly to cold and rainy. Please encourage your child to wear a coat to school so they can wear it outside during recess if needed.

If your child is absent, please excuse the absence in one of the following ways:

• Report the absence online via Skyward Family Access;
• Email the school office;
• Call the school office at 360-249-4331.

All absences must be excused within 24 hours. Acceptable excuses for student absences include: illness, medical/dental appointments, family emergency, bereavement, and religious occasions. Other reasons may be excused at the discretion of the school principal.
