Ramadan Mubarak!
The evening of March 10 begins the month of Ramadan in the Islamic calendar, which is a month of reflection, discipline, sacrifice and generosity. Many of our students will be fasting during this religious time, and we offer a variety of supports. In addition to available prayer space, we will open our office conference room during lunch to students who are fasting so that they have a place to gather with other students, relax and socialize. This is often easier for students than being in the cafeteria surrounded by peers who are eating. Students may, of course, choose to go the cafe and hang out with their friends if they prefer. In addition, our staff are aware of the challenges that come for young students who are fasting (ever try to take an Algebra test last period on an empty stomach??) and are ready to be supportive and flexible to respond to student needs.
If your student is having any unforeseen challenges, especially if they are fasting for the first time, please don't hesitate to reach out for help!
March also usually brings some flowers and greenery - much needed after a typical New England winter!
Best,
Tom Sallee, Principal
