Interested in Showing an Animal with FFA Next Year?
Any students in grades 2-11 who would like to show a calf, sheep, or goat during the next school year please speak to our MPS Ag Instructors Mr. Todd House at (918) 429-9738 or Mr. Dustin Finch at (918) 470-9247.
Several cattle, sheep, and goat breeders will be selling animals in the next several months. Pigs will be purchased this fall. Mr. House and Mr. Finch would be happy to assist you in getting these animal projects started.
Save the Date for Prom
As a reminder, only students in grades 10-12 may attend prom (freshmen are not allowed), and 10th graders must be invited by an 11th or 12th grader. If a student wishes to bring someone who attends a different school or someone who has graduated, they must get permission from MHS administration. Forms for outside guests may be picked up in the main office.
Students must be eligible to attend prom which means they cannot be on the ineligible list or serving any kid of out of school discipline. The ineligible report for the week of prom will be run on the morning of April 22nd.
FREE Prom Meal Provided by FCCLA!
FCCLA members will be serving dinner on prom night. This event was inspired last year by a student who was bummed out to have to miss out on "Krebs-style Italian" because it exceeded their budget; but out of despair, an idea was born! The art club is pitching in to help create table centerpieces. Indian Ed has kindly loaned tablecloths and other decor items. We're going to string lights across the room, set up a photo booth at one end, play some jazz, decorate the tables with candles and fresh flowers, and serve a delicious, scratch-made meal. Seating is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will be notified via email if they get a spot. We are specifically looking to serve our students who would otherwise not be able to afford a prom night dinner. Posters are posted around school.

PowerSchool Access
PowerSchool Access
As a parent, having PowerSchool access is the best way to monitor your student's attendance, tardies, grades, and assignments. We are getting calls in the office about each of these categories. In order to receive PowerSchool notifications, you will first need to go to your app store and download the PowerSchool app and enter your username and password. After that, log into the settings on your phone and choose notifications. From there, make sure you have PowerSchool notifications turned on in order to stay up to date with your student. PowerSchool allows you to customize which notifications you will receive. In order to choose which notifications you would like, from your PowerSchool dashboard choose more on the bottom menu. Then choose account, and finally notifications. If you need help with your username and password or help figuring out the app and the notifications, please call the office, and we will gladly help you. Our phone number is 918-423-4776
Why Attendance Matters
Attendance
Attendance in class is important to student learning. Studies shows that there is often a direct correlation between success in a class and attendance. When a student misses class, they miss valuable instruction. At the high school level, a student must meet certain attendance requirements in order to gain credit for a class. When a student has more than 8 unexcused absences, he or she can be denied credit for a class. This means that the student will have to retake the class regardless of the grade earned to receive credit for graduation purposes. A more detailed description of the attendance laws can be found in the McAlester Public School Student Handbook. If you have questions about your student's absences or need to report an absence, please call the office. You can also check on absences via the district wide PowerSchool website or app.
