Mustang Zone (Mrs. Peterson)
Middleton has a special place called the Mustang Zone. The Mustang Zone is a space designed to facilitate social-emotional skill building. Students come individually or in a small group to practice identifying basic emotions in themselves and others, identifying strategies or tools they can use to manage their emotions, and practicing self-regulation activities. Every Wednesday, Mrs. Peterson hosts “Visitor Wednesday,” where any student may be signed up for an opportunity to visit the room. Also, as an extension of the Mustang Zone, Kindergarten and 1st grade social groups are taught foundational social skills to help them become successful students and community members.
Music (Ms. Schact)
The music program at Middleton has a goal of making music enjoyable for everyone. We are creating life-long music lovers! While students are playing instruments, singing songs, and playing games, they are growing their love for music, while also building necessary musical skills such as steady beat and pitch recognition. Middleton also has an after school choir program for 4th and 5th grade students. These students meet on Tuesdays after school and get to sing together! They have multiple performances throughout the year to show off new songs that they have learned. Ms. Schacht loves working with the students at Middleton and is excited to continue growing the program.
PE (Mr. T)
The goal of the Middleton PE program is for all students to cultivate a passion for being physically active, while also having an understanding of why it is important to make healthy choices. Mr. T introduces students to many traditional and alternative activities hoping that they will develop a love of movement. Throughout the year, students also work on basic sports skills that translate directly to many of the sports and activities students participate in.
STEM (Mrs. Selby)
This year at Middleton, students have been collaborating together on a variety of STEM projects. The goal of STEM is to provide students with opportunities to critically think, communicate together, engage in creative problem solving and have fun! Students have continued to build upon their foundation of computer programming skills through a variety of technology applications, participated in lab based science activities and engaged in engineering design tasks. Mrs. Selby continues to build students' confidence in their STEM skills, an understanding of how this relates to the world around them and develop a passion for future STEM careers.
Library (Mrs. Bussanich)
The goal of library time is to provide students access to a wide range of books and foster a love for reading. Our wonderful librarian Mrs. B takes time to learn about each students’ hobbies, preferred genres, and reading levels. She helps them select books that match their interests and abilities. Mrs. B offers fun reading challenges such as the Winter Reading Program and Summer Reading Bingo to keep students reading over the breaks. We are so lucky to have such a great library program at Middleton.
Middleton 24-25 Class Placement Parent Input
As the end of the year approaches, we are starting to look ahead to next school year. The Middleton staff realizes that parents provide valuable information regarding their child’s placement. While we do not take requests for specific teachers, parent input will be carefully considered in the formation of classes for the 2023-2024 school year. Our class placement process is a collaborative one and our Placement Team takes into account a number of factors when forming classes: personalities, academic levels, learning styles, learning needs, and student compatibility. We look at each student as an individual and as a member of a diverse class. This information will be given careful consideration. Every effort will be made to provide the most appropriate educational setting for your child and to establish well-balanced classrooms. Please keep in mind that parent placement input is not a teacher request form. Any form turned in with a specific teacher’s name request will not be considered.
Please complete this survey no later than 5 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024.
Middleton Kindness Spirit Week
Spring Emergency Drills
All Sherwood schools will be participating in our third and final round of emergency drills for this school year April 22-May 3. Each school will select either a "Secure" or a "Lockdown" drill for this final round. These drills are an essential part of our emergency preparedness, and help students and staff to practice specific actions that would occur in an emergency situation. Practice drills such as these are also an opportunity for our administrators and staff to collaborate with the Sherwood Police Department to continue improving our safety plans. You may notice increased police presence if you are on/near our campus during an emergency drill, as our SROs do participate in checking our building security during the drill.
During drills, staff and students are secured within the building. No one will be allowed to enter or exit the campus until the drill has been completed.
For more information on District emergency response protocols and communication, please visit the SSD website here.
Family Movie Night
Middleton Family Movie Night: Friday, April 26th. We will be showing The Mario Movie. The Doors will open at 5:30 with a movie start time of 6:15 in the gym/cafeteria. The entrance will be around the side of the school under the covered area through the gym doors. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
Entrance to the movie is free!! There will be water, pizza (including gluten free) and candy available for purchase of $1 each. Students can bring their own blankets and cozies to the movie. We look forward to seeing you there.
As an additional fundraiser for Middleton, Kona Ice will be here too. They will be open for business beginning at school dismissal until 5:30. No snow cones will be allowed in the building, but enjoyed outside.
PAC Board Elections
Each spring, we select the board members for next year’s Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). These are the parents who partner with the Middleton principal and staff to lead and promote volunteering, fundraising, activity and event coordination, and enrichment opportunities for the school. We'd appreciate it very much if you would take a moment to complete this quick online survey to help us finalize our board members for the 2024-2025 school year! Link to Middleton PAC Election Form
