Students of the Month
Jesse Yang is an excellent student in the Honors and AP Course of study. He has a 4.31 GPA which places 11th in his class. Jesse is a Commended National Merit student and has been a member of CSF for three years. Jesse is an outstanding athlete and has been part of the Swimming and Diving team during high school and joined Water Polo in his senior year where he received Academic All-League.
Outside of school, Jesse is a Boy Scout and has done community service through them. His community activities have included cleaning windows and floors at the Walnut Blessing Church, removing weeds on the outside of the church, multiple beach clean-ups, reading to the elderly in a hospital, helping build a playground at an orphanage, and building a trail. These activities have not only demonstrated his commitment to service but also his ability to work in diverse environments and his leadership skills.
Jesse's passion for medical research is evident in his participation in the Medical Research program at Western University of Health Sciences during two summers. Here, he gained invaluable hands-on experience, learning to create silk-fibroin-based nanoparticles with celastrol, a drug believed to have potential in cancer treatment. He also honed his skills in dissection, organ collection, and weight measurement in mice and gained a comprehensive understanding of cell culture, passaging cells, and conducting assays. This practical experience has undoubtedly prepared him well for the rigors of medical school.
He has also volunteered at a family clinic and a psychiatric clinic. At the family clinic, he assisted the medical staff in patient care, gaining practical experience in healthcare. At the psychiatric clinic, he provided support to patients with mental health conditions, demonstrating his empathy and dedication to helping others.
Looking ahead, Jesse's aspirations are clear. His passion for medicine and his dedication to academic and extracurricular pursuits have paved the way for his future. He is determined to attend medical school, a goal he is undoubtedly well-equipped to achieve, given his impressive track record and diverse experiences.

Math Department
AP Calculus AB
AP Calculus AB students find the volume of a donut using either the washer method or the shell method. As for a treat, they can eat the donut afterward.
Geometry
Students in geometry explored the difference between prisms and pyramids and build a castle with these requirements using magnetic tiles.
AP Precalculus
Students in AP Precalculus practiced polar coordinates fluency by playing polar battleships.
CTE Department
Auto Level 2
In Auto 2, students are currently engaged in a hands-on lesson, performing a Lube, Oil, and Filter (LOF) service. Guided by Mr. Martin, they are utilizing an automotive lift to elevate the vehicle safely, allowing them to efficiently access the undercarriage. With a focus on practical skills, they are executing the steps of the service, including draining and replacing the oil, swapping out the filter, and meticulously lubricating the chassis components. This exercise not only reinforces their understanding of routine maintenance procedures but also hones their proficiency in operating automotive equipment effectively.
Construction Technology 1
In Construction Technology 1, students are currently immersed in a woodworking project that demands precision and craftsmanship: the creation of a woodknot puzzle. They meticulously mark and cut wooden pieces to exact specifications. Employing a combination of bandsaws, scroll saws, and drill presses, they skillfully shape and refine each component of the puzzle. This hands-on exercise not only cultivates their woodworking skills but also instills in them a keen eye for detail and an appreciation for the importance of accuracy in construction projects.
Hello Parents & Guardians. We strongly believe that attendance is the first key to success. We would like to remind you of the following:
- A parent/guardian is expected to contact the Attendance Office on the day the student is absent. If prior contact is not possible, a parent call or note on the day the student returns is required. If the absence is not cleared within three school days, the absence may be recorded as Unexcused.
- If your student goes to a doctor's appointment, please have him/her bring a note from the medical office the next day so that it can be considered "medical" rather than "illness".
- Students have a duty to remain at school and may not leave the premises during the school day except when cleared by a parent/guardian through the Attendance Office.
- Tardiness is a disruption in the process of education. Continued tardiness will have a negative effect on the learning process and the progress in a class, and may result in disciplinary action for the student.
- A student is considered to be chronically absent if, at any time in the school year, the number of absences, for any reason, exceeds 10% of the days of enrollment.
Types of Absences
M - Medical (verified with doctor's note)
I - Excused Illness (verified by parent/guardian)
U - Unexcused (verified by parent/guardian, reason not allowed per Ed Code)
R - Truant (parent/guardian verifies student missed class without valid reason - student chose to miss)
A - Unverified (no communication from parent)
B - School Business
