Fisher Family Update
March 1, 2024

Dear Fisher Families,
It was great to see all our students after the February break. They came back reenergized and ready to share stories of their travels or how they enjoyed taking it easy at home. The teachers and staff also returned refreshed and ready to begin a critical, seven week stretch of uninterrupted teaching and learning. The expectations have increased since the Term I report card was shared and the learning goals for the grade level and your child will be shared at the upcoming parent/teacher conferences. If you haven’t signed up for a conference please contact your child’s teacher or the main office and we will be happy to help you schedule a time to meet. This will be a very busy time of the school year and I encourage you to check the backpack and your emails for updates from your child’s classroom, the school and district.
Thank you and have a great weekend,
Brian

Planning for Success
Nancy Niles, former Fisher PAC President and current PAC President at JMS is part of a team of people that are planning for the future success of Walpole public schools. The team is made up of a number of professionals in the school district as well as students and community members. Nancy is a community member and parent of 4 Walpole public school students.
Nancy has been asked to reach out to her fellow parents and families and inquire about their vision for Walpole Public Schools, 5 years from now. By asking other parents of Walpole public school students we hope to get a clear picture of where we, as parents, want to see the district focus their efforts.
Please consider answering the following questions. You do not have to answer them all. You can give as much or as little information about yourself and your family as you feel comfortable. The form is ANONYMOUS, there will be no way to tell who submits this form to Nancy. That said, please consider how you can answer these questions constructively.
Thank You!
Nancy Niles

Read Across America
This Saturday, March 2nd, marks the start of Read Across America week. Last year, a selection of books by authors from various cultures with diverse characters was incorporated to acknowledge the rich tapestry of literature in the United States. In the spirit of embracing diversity through reading, themed days were designated for students to express themselves through optional dress-up activities. Below is a schedule detailing the spirit week days. Your consideration in participating to make this a school-wide celebration of literacy and diversity would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to learn more, please click the "Read Across America" link below.

Fisher's Finest Update
FISHER’S FINEST FAMILY UPDATE - March 2024
First, a little bit about Fisher’s Finest - For those of you new to Fisher School this year, let us introduce ourselves. Fisher’s Finest is a group that began 17 years ago at Fisher School to support the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Each year, the Red Sox and Dana-Farber team together to sponsor the “Rally Against Cancer”. Schools and companies are invited to raise money for the Jimmy Fund to help offset the costs of patient treatment and support as well as cancer research. We formed our team, Fisher’s Finest, as a way to “rally” our students and families and support this important effort.
Over the years, you have responded in the most amazing way, earning our school THREE Red Sox player visits, two visits from Wally the Green Monster and his little sister, Tessie, and a visit in 2019 from the 2018 World Series trophy!!!! In our first seventeen years participating in Rally Against Cancer, Fisher’s Finest has raised over $100,000.00 for the Jimmy Fund. That is beyond incredible!!! If you mention “Fisher’s Finest” to the staff at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, they know who we are!!! Our students and families have shown such understanding and compassion for those going through trying times with cancer, especially since this has affected a number of our families and staff members over the years. One note, to clear up some confusion we’ve had in the past – Fisher’s Finest is not connected to our Fisher PAC. It is a totally separate group.
Our Green Monster Wall of Honor is filling up quickly! Thank you so much to those who have already sent in donations, names, and photos. Order forms were sent home last month, but if you would like one, they are still available in school. You can email Mrs. McDonough and one will be sent home with your child.. For those of you who are not familiar with the Green Monster Wall of Honor, it is a large green “wall” located in the hallway that leads to the auditorium. Families can make a donation to The Jimmy Fund via our Fisher’s Finest Rally team and have a baseball hung on the wall honoring a loved one who has battled cancer. Please stop by to see it the next time you visit Fisher.
Our classes kicked off Change for a Cure the Friday before February break and it will continue through April 5. Students are encouraged to bring in change from home - they may find it between couch cushions, under the car seat, bottle deposit refunds, etc. Some students even do extra chores at home to earn a donation. The class who raises the most money averaged per student in the class receives Jimmy Fund/Red Sox baseball caps and, should we be the top fundraising school, a private meet and greet with a Red Sox player visitor. This activity helps our students (and staff!) realize what a big difference a seemingly small gift can make,
