Camp Champions Lost & Found
If your child is still missing items from camp, we have a Lost & Found area on a shelf outside of the GT room, in our 5th grade studio. Also, please be on the lookout for a missing A&M sweatshirt. This item was lost at camp. We did a super fast pack up in the girls cabin and the item could have easily been packed in the wrong backpack.

ELA/Social Studies
Reading: Narrative Poetry
Students will Identify and explain poetic word choice.
We will be starting City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau next week. Many of the students like to annotate in their own book. If you are interested in purchasing an individual copy, this is the amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/City-Ember-First-Book/dp/0375822747
If possible, please send in a yellow folder with brads for our City of Ember novel project.
Thank you to those parents that sent in extra folders for our kiddos!
Nightly Reading: Students will continue to read toward the 100 minute weekly goal. We will have a homework strip this week.
Language/Grammar: Students will identify all parts of the sentence and use subjects and predicates appropriately within sentences.
Writing: Students will use components of a poem, overview of vocabulary and will respond to narrative poetry.
Social Studies: American History
We will be kicking off our Jamestown DBQ Project this week: Why did so many colonists have to die?
Math/Science
Math: We will take a Math CBA this week, and then we will be moving on to Division(starting with Topic 4 in Pearson). This week will focus on using patterns to divide by multiples of 10, 100, and 1000, estimating quotients of whole number dividends and divisors, and more multi-step problem solving.
We didn't get to take our multiplication quiz on Friday, so we will take one on Monday. Students who do not know all of their facts should continue to study every night, for at least 10 minutes. Many students have expressed interest in having a multiplication facts tournament, like they did in 4th grade. So as extra motivation for students to learn their facts, and to step it up a notch, the 5th grade teachers have decided to host two DIVISION fact tournaments. If students know their multiplication facts, they should also know their division facts, by default. First tourney will be held the week before Thanksgiving break and the second will be the week before Winter Break.
Homework: Spiral review (place value, addition/subtraction, multiplication)
(For info regarding Mrs. McGilvray's class, please click here.)
Science: We will continue with Mixtures and Solutions this week, exploring how to separate a complicated mixture through various strategies. This will conclude our unit on Matter. Next, we will move on to Energy and Forces, beginning with Electric Circuits. Students are expected to know that Electricity flows in a closed path to form a circuit and stops when the circuit is broken; we can demonstrate that electricity can produce light, heat, and sound when flowing through a circuit; and that many everyday devices use electricity to produce light, heat, and sound.

This will be my 16th year in the classroom, having taught 3rd-5th grades. Before coming to SSE in 2017, I taught at Casis Elementary, in Austin. I am an Austin native but also lived in East Texas (Lufkin), as a teenager. I returned to Austin to attend the University of Texas. I am now proud to call Dripping Springs my home, where I live happily with my husband and 1 year old son! Go Tigers!
