Important Information Regarding Student Attendance and Academic Credit
Dear Parents,
We hope this letter finds you well. As part of our commitment to ensuring the success and academic growth of our students, we want to bring to your attention a crucial law regarding student attendance and its impact on academic credit and final grades.
As per Section 25.092 of the law, titled "Minimum Attendance for Class Credit or Final Grade," it is mandated that students in any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 must maintain a minimum attendance of 90 percent of the days the class is offered in order to receive credit or a final grade for that particular class.
This law underscores the vital role that consistent attendance plays in a student's academic progress and overall success. Regular attendance not only ensures that students receive essential instruction but also fosters a conducive learning environment where they can actively engage with their peers and teachers, participate in discussions, and benefit from the educational opportunities provided in the classroom.
However, we understand that there may be circumstances beyond a student's control that could lead to occasional absences. Therefore, Section 25.092 also outlines provisions for students who may have attendance between 75 percent and 90 percent of the class days. In such cases, students may still be eligible for credit or a final grade if they complete a plan approved by the school's principal, which ensures that they meet the instructional requirements of the class.
As partners in your child's education, we urge you to emphasize the significance of regular attendance with your child. By prioritizing attendance and actively participating in their educational journey, students can maximize their learning potential and set a strong foundation for future academic endeavors.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding student attendance policies or the implementation of Section 25.092, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and partnership in fostering a culture of academic excellence and student success at Miles Elementary.
Warm Regards,
Curt McKneely

Below is the law about minimum attendance for class credit or final grade.
Sec. 25.092. MINIMUM ATTENDANCE FOR CLASS CREDIT OR FINAL GRADE. (a) Except as provided by this section, a student in any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 may not be given credit or a final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered.
(a-1) A student who is in attendance for at least 75 percent but less than 90 percent of the days a class is offered may be given credit or a final grade for the class if the student completes a plan approved by the school's principal that provides for the student to meet the instructional requirements of the class. A student under the jurisdiction of a court in a criminal or juvenile justice proceeding may not receive credit or a final grade under this subsection without the consent of the judge presiding over the student's case.
