VICKERS ATHLETICS
Hello from Vickers Athletics!
We wrapped up the basketball season on a high note, with the Vikings bringing home plenty of medals! Coaches were proud of the effort, growth, and sportsmanship shown all season long, and we’re already looking forward to seeing that progress continue next year on the court.
We’re now into the second half of the badminton season, with games and practices happening every week. Be sure to check out the “Vickers Badminton 2025” EDSBY group, where we post rosters, updates, and announcements.
We’re also excited to be hosting our own in-house tournament, the “Shuttle Showdown,” giving our players some extra competition during the season.
March 31 – Grades 6/7
April 1 – Grades 7/8
Looking ahead, the year-end “Extravaganza” tournament is just around the corner and will be held at Carlton. Players can scan the QR code to request preferred divisions (singles, doubles, or mixed) to help coaches build balanced teams. Here are the tournament dates:

(Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles)Grade 7/8 Extravaganza – Monday, April 14 @ Carlton, 3:30–6:00 PM
(Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles)Mixed Doubles (6/7 & 7/8) – Tuesday, April 15 @ Carlton, 3:30–5:30 PM
Track & Field season is coming up fast! We’ll start with indoor high jump practice, and once the school grounds dry up, we’ll dive into all the outdoor events.
A huge thank-you to all of our athletes, families, coaches, and officials for your continued support this season. We’re nearing the finish line, and none of this would be possible without you!

VICKERS MUSIC PROGRAM
Congratulations! to our Music Festival scholarship award winners! Vickers students received scholarships in the disciplines of piano, voice, instrumental, choral, and band.
The Vickers Choir was selected to compete at the provincial finals level of competition so their recordings will be sent on for further competition and adjudication. Congratulations to all involved!
Congratulations as well to the 18 students selected as members of the Saskatchewan Band Association’s Junior Honour Band to be held at Carlton from April 25-27. Your commitment to excellence in music is admirable and you will represent Vickers well!
On March 21st a group of band and choir students attended the U of S Wind Ensemble concert in Saskatoon where they heard high quality wind band music and saw Ms. Lohneis play in a saxophone choir to commemorate the retirement of her former saxophone teacher and band director Dr. Glen Gillis. It was a great evening of music and an excellent way to spend a Friday evening!
Congratulations to Abby Smith-Biggins, Noah Avey, Kasen Barlow, Jase Michalchuk, Gabriella Goldberg-Falcon, Kinley Kaptein, and Ezekiel Manzon who performed at the Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon on March 23rd with the Prince Albert Youth Jazz Band. You put on a great show and made Vickers proud!
Plans are well underway for the spring band trips. The dates and locations for the trips are as follows:
May 12-13: Grade 5 band - Camp Kinasao
May 14-15: Choir - Moose Jaw
May 24-26: Grade 8 Band - Calgary
June 9-10: Grade 7 Band - Regina
June 10-11: Grade 6 Band - Saskatoon
The last fundraising bingos available to work before trip deadlines are on April 11th (to be applied to May and June trips) and May 9th (to be applied to June trips only). The final bingo of the year is on June 22nd, with money raised on that date being carried over to next year’s trips. Please note that no fundraising money can follow students to other schools (though it can be used for future band and choir trips of younger siblings at Vickers). Please contact Ms. Lohneis for more information or if you would like to sign up to work a bingo.
Thank you for your continued support of your children’s education, including music!

Farewell and Best Wishes to Our Developmental Education Team!
As we say goodbye to our wonderful Developmental Education staff—our dedicated Teachers and Educational Associates—we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible impact they have had at Vickers. Their commitment, compassion, and unwavering support for students have made a lasting difference in our school community.
While we will miss them dearly, we are also excited for this next chapter as they move into their new space at Riverside School. This transition marks a new beginning filled with opportunities to continue their meaningful work in a setting designed to support student success.
To celebrate this move, we warmly invite parents and community members to a Come and Go Grand Opening at Riverside School on Wednesday, April 16th, from 3:30–5:30 p.m. Join us as we welcome our team into their new home and celebrate the future of Developmental Education at Riverside!
Wishing our incredible staff all the best in their new space—you will always be part of the Vickers family!
With appreciation,
Mrs. Jennie Green
Principal
ICY CONDITIONS
Please be aware that icy conditions are present outside. For your safety, exercise caution when walking on the playground and walkways.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
