The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
April 19, 2024
Dear Families,
This was a special week for many students.
Fourth graders culminated a month long study of economics by visiting BizTown, a fictional small town where students are bankers, business CEOs and CFOs, store clerks, news casters, and so much more! Each student has an important role to play and a job to perform. Additionally, students learn all about banking, depositing their paycheck, writing checks and using debit accounts and most importantly, not overdrawing their accounts! It was a hard day's work, but students said they had a ton of fun!
On Tuesday night audience members were treated to incredible performances by students from all over the district with choir music, dance, jazz band and more! It was called the HeART of Portland and was held at the Portland Art Museum. Also featured on Tuesday was student art work from al over the district. I was so proud to be able to see three Llewellyn students singing in the Honor Choir (Evelyn Carlson, Claire Desrocher, and Tomas Jacobsen) and one student's art (Gabriel O'Connor). Congratulations to each of you for your tremendous work! Thank you to ZWB and Ms. Davis for helping our students to showcase their talents!
I also want to give a shout out to our Llewellyn Kindergarten teachers, PTA President, Melisa Pearson, Treasurer, Lindsay Lopez, Foundation President, Rebecca Collins and the many volunteers who helped to make Connect to Kindergarten Night on April 11th a huge success. Thank you for answering questions and getting families excited about joining the wonderful community here at Llewellyn!
Lastly, I want you to know that the District is moving forward in the process to find the next principal for Llewellyn. On Tuesday, May 2nd at 6:00pm, an information gathering session will be held in our Cafeteria. My boss, John Melvin will lead a discussion in which he explains the process and then asks for your input about what you would like to see in your next principal and what makes Llewellyn such an incredible community. (Of course, I have already bragged about this community, but he'd like to hear it from you.). More information to come soon.
Have a great weekend!

Principal For A Day: Deacon Bumgarner
I had a blast with my guest Principal for A Day, Deacon Bumgarner (grade 4-Prelosky)! he delivered the morning message, helped with lunch duty, shared his vision for Llewellyn in classrooms, completed a survey, and classroom observation walkthroughs. His energy was contagious and his ideas to improve the school abundant! Thank you to all who made this possible by supporting Deacon during the Readathon!
From the Office
Did your student forget to turn in their photo day envelope? We cannot take late envelopes at the school, since we have no means to get them to Dorian. Information on how you can late-order class photos will be coming soon!
From Llewellyn's TAG Coordinator
All TAG referrals have been processed and final decision letters have been sent out. The spreadsheet sends a PDF as soon as the nomination has been considered. If you have not received a decision letter, then please request a copy from the PPS Let's Talk (pps.net/contact) resource. The referral cycle will start again next school year in the fall. All spring and fall test scores will be filtered and families will be notified if their child is a candidate for nomination. The process is automatic and family letters are sent from the district.

Drop Off & Pick Up: Improved Safety and Traffic Flow
Let's improve traffic flow and safety during drop off and pick up!
Please read the attached documents and follow these directions. A map is included to help illustrate the new routes suggested.
By AVOIDING the RED ZONE, we can all be safer!
Note: If you are interested in helping to support these new routes by volunteering in the morning or afternoon or if you have access to signage, please let me know. It would greatly help to have people directing traffic as we all get used to these new routes.

News from the PTA
PTA Happenings
A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the staff potluck last Wednesday. We had so many yummy things donated and many of you donated to the Sunshine Committee which helps us purchase both food and non-food items to help the potluck run smoothly. The staff always appreciates all the food and treats and we are grateful we have such a generous community. Together we shine!
Our Earth Day event is coming up this Saturday, April 20 from 10 am to 3 pm. We will have a big garden work party which will include spreading mulch, pulling weeds and just giving our garden a spring makeover. There will be nature-themed crafts and activities for the kids and Mason bee expert Debbie from NatureHood will be there to talk about our school’s Mason bee project and how it extends our science program. Come and enjoy the sun while beautifying our lovely Llewellyn garden!
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up soon in May and we are very excited to celebrate our teachers and staff with a 90's theme celebration because we think our staff is all that and a bag of chips! Each day we will pump up the jam for our wonderful Llewellyn teachers and staff which will include a few potluck meals that parents and community members can sign up to help with. This is such a special event and we always love seeing all the creative door decorations and the unique ways students show their appreciation for our teachers and staff. And as if we could ever forget, we will be sending home a newsletter explaining the 411 about all of the weeks’ events and you will be getting an email from your class leads explaining how you can get involved. So if you want to know the dealio, we will be posting to Konstella and socials daily so that you can stay in the know about each day’s activities.
Make sure you are checking lost and found for your students’ coats and all other cold weather items (some lunch boxes and water bottles too!). Since the weather is moving into warmer temperatures, the lost and found is yet again overflowing. Also, if there are names inside, it’s easier to get items back to their owner.

The purpose of the Llewellyn Foundation is to raise funds throughout the year to provide additional staff positions to the school. Through February 2024, we have raised $47,019 (63%) towards our goal of $75,000.
DONATE NOW during our Spring Promotion (April 8th - April 26th) and get a little swag in return. We have magnets and new lawn signs available! Funds raised through June will go towards hiring staffing support in the 24-25 school year. Thank you to all those who have been able to contribute so far.
