Welcome back JCMS! We are thankful to be starting school with our students again, on this Wednesday, October 24th. Even though we have missed many school days, we will strive to make this year as productive as normal years without hurricanes. If you have been displaced due to Hurricane Florence, please click on the link below. Inside this newsletter you will find information about our school's revised calendar of events, Girls on the Run, JCMS News, and Athletics. As we return to school and reschedule events with various staff, additional dates will be added to the school calendar. Additional beginning of year information for classroom supplies and the school lunch form is at the bottom of the newsletter. Football:

Practice will start Monday 10/22 at 3:30. Student athletes must have 3 days of practice before full contact and 5 days of practice before first game.

Softball:

Practice will start Monday 10/22 at 3:30. Student athletes must participate in a minimum of 3 practices before the first game.

Heart and Sole will begin practices Monday Oct 29th. We will practice Monday and Thursday. All girls must be picked up by 4:30 pm! Our celebration race has been moved to Sat, Dec 15 to give the girls enough time to train and work through the program. More specific information will be sent out this weekend via email from Coach Foreman. As always, the Heart and Sole webpage on the JCMS website will also be updated as needed!

JCMS welcomes students to be a part of our weekly news crew! We cover our school’s top news stories and show what JCMS is all about! We meet every Tuesday after school in Mrs. Lawson’s art room from 3:05 to 4:15. Please make sure you have a ride home after school.

JCMS will not be holding a school science fair this fall, but will send interested students to the district science fair on Tuesday, December 11. The JCMS Science Department will support students that wish to participate at the district level contest in after school sessions. As we gauge interest, we will schedule science fair project help sessions. If you are interested in volunteering at JCMS for events, to assist in classrooms, and possibly testing, please contact Ms. Soliday our guidance counselor. She will review volunteer policies and provide you information about how to get fingerprinted. We love to see parents helping out and involved! cara.soliday@onslow.k12.nc.us

Below is the student breakfast and lunch cost for the school year. If you think you may qualify for free or reduced lunch please pick up a lunch form in the front office, or go to www.lunchapplication.com. We want to reduce the amount of charges owed this school year so please pay when a student has charged or fill out the form.

• One 3 Inch 3-Ring Binder (NO Trapper Keepers or zip up binders)
• Notebook Paper (no spiral notebooks)
• Pencils
• Black/Blue Pens
• 12 Pack of colored pencils
• Pencil Pouch ( that fits in binder)
• Small school scissors
• Highlighters
• 10 pack of sheet protectors
• Glue sticks

Optional Items

• Ruler
• Dictionary and calculator for home use
• Earbuds (recommended)
• Portable hole Punch (that fits in rings of binder)

*It is highly encouraged to purchase a backpack with a padded laptop compartment or sleeve to ensure the protection of student issued laptops. Approximately 14" inch screen.

The middle school fees are the same as last school year. The Onslow County School System has adopted the following fee schedule for all middle school students.

* Instructional fee--$5.00

* Chrous--$5.00

* Band or Orchestra--$10.00

* Art fee--$7.00

* Laptop Insurance/Tech Usage Fee--$25.00

* Locker rental--$2.00 (all school fees must be paid before a locker is assigned)

Parents who wish to have school fees waived need to fill out a fee waiver form by the twentieth day of enrollment. The school may request additional documentation from the parents necessary to support the parent's request for a fee waiver.

1:1 Technology Usage Assessment/Fee $ 25.00

This insurance assessment will help assist the district with costs associated with supporting the devices, as well as any accidental damages. Hardship waivers will be available for families requiring assistance with this nominal charge.
