Some thoughts for the starting school year

April 2024
Spring Greetings!
With so much still on the calendar, it is hard to believe there are only 24 days of school left. Many of our students are in the midst of or finishing annual state testing this month and heading into end-of-the-year celebrations. Our school campuses are alive with activity, from Open House events to spring band concerts and student productions, all leading up to our year-end celebrations.
Our last day of school, Thursday, May 23, will be here before we know it, and many of us will find ourselves honoring students at a promotion ceremony. Our district leadership team and members of the Board of Trustees will join families at each of the intermediate schools to celebrate this momentous occasion as our students leave the Etiwanda School District and transition to the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.
We want to thank our staff members and families who attended our spring LCAP Community Forums earlier this month. With nearly 300 attendees at our forums, we collected valuable feedback on our draft plan and actions.
Please join us in celebrating and recognizing our outstanding employees during the month of May. May 8 is set aside and recognized as the California Day of the Teacher and National School Nurse Day. The week of May 19-25 is dedicated as Classified School Employee Week by California. Now is a great time to show our teachers, nurses, school secretaries, office staff, campus support, facilities staff, and other paraprofessionals appreciation for all they do to ensure our schools are safe, welcoming places for students to learn and grow.
Please add these important dates to your calendar.
- May 23 Last Day of School
- May 24 School Offices Close
- July 22 School Offices Open
- August 5 First Day of School
Looking forward to a successful conclusion of the school year.

Spring LCAP Community Forums
Thank you to all the families and staff who joined us at our spring LCAP Community Forums. It was a valuable opportunity for district and school leaders to discuss the preliminary goals and actions of the 2024-25 Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP) and gather your insights on our progress.
Your input throughout the year—gathered from surveys, ThoughtExchange activities, and advisory groups—plays a critical role in shaping the draft LCAP. We also consider key metrics like CAASPP scores, attendance rates, suspension rates, and English Learner progress to guide our planning for the upcoming year. Your thoughtful feedback is essential as we work together to enhance our educational strategies and accountability.
The insights we received at the forums will be carefully reviewed by the LCAP Advisory Committee this month to review and revise the goals and actions in the draft 2024-25 LCAP . We look forward to presenting the final draft to the Board of Trustees in May for their review and approval. Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our district’s success.
When Are CAASPP Student Score Reports Released?
The CAASPP Smarter Balanced Assessment in Language Arts and Mathematics and the California Science Test (CAST) Student Score Reports (SSR) are expected to be electronically available to families in June 2024 through the Aeries Parent Portal. Families will be notified when the student score reports have been received by the state and uploaded into our student information system.
The CAASPP Student Score Report will inform families of their child's progress towards meeting grade level expectations and where they are doing well or need more support in each subject. This is helpful information to discuss with your child's teacher to understand how they can be better supported in the classroom and how families can support learning at home.
The score reports for the California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for students with significant disabilities are expected later in mid-September 2024.
Sample student score reports and a guide to prepare for parent-teacher conferences is available through the Starting Smarter website using the button below.
