Join us to celebrate the joy of childhood and to honor future generations with games, music and fun! Due to rain, the Dia de los Niños event will be inside the school gym and cafeteria. The event starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Atkinson Parents,
The end of the year is an exciting time. Here is an activity that happened and some activities to keep on your calendars.
Yesterday, our K–2 students performed a music program. It was so fun to hear them show off the musical skills they’ve been working on. We recorded the performance for parents who weren’t able to attend. While I cannot share the video, I will be providing an online showing of the video on Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. You can access the showing at this link.
On Wednesday, May 22 is the 3rd–5th grade music performance. Parents are invited to attend at 1:40 p.m. Please note this is a new time. I plan on recording this performance as well and will be having a showing on Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at this link.
Run for Atkinson is scheduled for May 10. Funds raised this year will go to the Atkinson Foundation. We will focus these funds to increase the FTE for our half-time School Secretary, Ms. Katie. We are hopeful we can raise enough to have her full time at Atkinson. A full time School Secretary would be able to administratively support our Counselor and School Psychologist, freeing them up to more fully focus on mental health issues that are present in our student population. Last year we collected just over $16,000. If we can match that amount this year, we will be able to meet our goal of a full time School Secretary!
This particular year, our community has a unique opportunity to contribute because Oregon taxpayers will be receiving their Oregon Kicker check right after filing their tax return. I am asking parents to consider donating 10% of their Oregon Kicker to the Run for Atkinson event through the Atkinson Foundation. You can donate HERE — choose the “DONATE TO A SPECIFIC SCHOOL” button, and in the “PURPOSE” field, please use the drop down menu to select Atkinson Elementary School. Don’t forget to check with your employer, as some have matching funds or programs that could double your contribution!
We will soon be sending more information about these and other events.
In service to students,
Debbie Armendariz
Principal
