A Note from Nurse Pettit

Medications and the field trip:

The LCPS medication policy applies to students while on a field trip. Students with diabetes, asthma, or life-threatening allergies may self-carry the following medications (insulin, glucagon, inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors) throughout the school day and on a field trip with the written consent of the physician, school nurse and parent/guardian as indicated on the “Physician Order/Action Plan.” Otherwise, students are not permitted to transport medications or carry any medication while in school or on a field trip.

Parents of students who self-carry medication per the above policy should remind their student to bring their medication with them on the field trip. Having the medication in the box with the prescription label is best practice and will facilitate the process of bag check at the park.

All other prescription medications normally administered to a student during the school day per the above policy will be carried by a staff member and administered according to physician orders.
