NAPLAN
NAPLAN assessments have started for our Year 3 and 5 students. They have completed Writing and Reading and will sit Conventions of Language tomorrow and Numeracy on Monday. Catch up assessments for those who are away on these days will available until Monday 25th March.
I thank Miss Moro and Miss Jenzen for ensuring our students are prepared for each test and have everything needed.
Year 6 Camp
Next Monday our Year 6’s will head down to Point Walter in Bicton for school camp. This is always a much-anticipated event amongst our Year 6 students and they are very excited. Mrs Maloney, Miss Jenzen, Mr Bridgeman and I will be accompanying the Year 6 class and I must say I am very much looking forward to seeing our students challenge themselves at some of the activities they will be faced with. It will be a great opportunity to hone their leadership skills as they prepare for high school next year.
Harmony Day
Next Thursday is Harmony Day! Harmony Day is a day of celebration dedicated to promoting Australia's cultural diversity and fostering a sense of inclusion and harmony.
At QOA we appreciate the many different cultures that attend our school and to promote the values of respect and inclusivity.
On this day buddy classes will be getting together to do an activity that deepens their understanding of Harmony Day and why it is important.
Cricket Carnival
Good Luck to the Year 6's as they represent our school at the Interschool Cricket Carnival next Friday at Karoonda Reserve in Booragoon. Parents and friends are welcome to attend and support the teams.
Parent Teacher Interviews
This year our Kindy to Year 6 staff will conduct their Parent/Teacher interviews on Wednesday 27th March. If you haven't booked a meeting yet please do so by choosing an available time from the link that was sent via SeeSaw last week. Please note this is a pupil free day as is Thursday 28th March. Please keep these dates in your diary.
Easter Raffle and Hat Parade
On Monday 25th March the P&F have organised an Easter Hat Parade.
We are asking the students in each class from Kindy to Year 6 come up with a creative Easter Hat design to wear to the parade. There will be prizes on offer so you better start getting creative to impress the judges.
Students are also able to wear free dress on this day for a gold coin donation. The parade will take place at 9am in the Undercover Area. Parents/Carers are most welcome to attend.
Also on this day we will be drawing the winners of the Easter Raffle. Tickets have been sent home with each child and the Year 6's will be selling extra tickets at lunch time. The tickets are 50c each.
It promises to be a fun morning and I'm looking forward to seeing the creative designs the students come up with.

DA VINCI DECATHLON 2024
On Friday 8 March, selected students from Years 5 and 6 competed in the Da Vinci Decathlon at Winthrop Hall at UWA. The Da Vinci Decathlon challenges students academically but also requires individuals to collaborate, work independently and use critical and higher order thinking skills. The ten challenges were developed to test student’s agility in thinking skills as a time limit is set on completing a number of disciplines at the same time.
Congratulations to both the Year 5 and the Year 6 Team. Competing against 30 schools, many of them K-12 Colleges, they managed to place 2nd in Science (Year 5) and 1st in English (Year 6). This is an amazing achievement in the context of our small school. Well done to all involved.
