March 2024 NEWSLETTER (Vol. 2, Issue 7)
Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Tiger Community,
As we begin the testing season, I want to take a moment to address our students, parents, and faculty about the importance of this time and the necessity of self-care. Testing season can be a stressful period for our students as they prepare to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. However, it's crucial to remember that while academic success is important, so is our physical and mental well-being.
Standardized tests provide valuable insights into your student's academic progress and areas where they may need additional support. It's an opportunity for growth and improvement, and we encourage our students to approach these assessments with confidence and determination.
At the same time, it's essential to prioritize self-care during this period. The pressure of testing can sometimes lead to increased stress and anxiety among students. As parents and educators, it's our responsibility to support them not only academically but also emotionally. Encourage your children to maintain a healthy balance between studying and relaxation. Ensure they get enough sleep, eat nutritious meals, and engage in activities that help them unwind and recharge.
Additionally, I want to remind our parents that you are not alone in supporting your child through testing season. Our school counselors are here to provide guidance and resources to help students manage stress and anxiety effectively. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or need assistance.
Student Wellness Resources: Our district's Student Wellness page provides valuable resources and information on promoting mental health and well-being among students. You can find tips for managing stress, self-care strategies, and guidance on supporting your child through challenging times.
Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring the success and well-being of every student in our district!
Warm regards,
Tim Webster

Empowering Change Through Creativity!
In partnership with Missouri Department of Transportation's "No MOre Trash!" campaign, middle school citizenship students participated in the Trash-Can Decorating Contest. They transformed a plain old trash can into a masterpiece, featuring none other than the iconic Oscar the Grouch. Our students didn't just stop at decorating! They took action by cleaning up the ditches in front of our school, collecting trash to incorporate into their project.
Let's turn Oscar's frown upside down together, as we pledge to "Feed the Can, Man!" instead of littering. Together, we can make a difference in keeping our community clean and green. Kudos to our amazing students for their dedication to promoting a cleaner, greener future!
Kindergarten Easter Egg Hunt Tradition Continues!
Our district's cherished Kindergarten Easter Egg Hunt tradition is back, and it's bigger and better than ever! Thanks to the amazing generosity of our community, we received over 2,000 eggs for this year's hunt.
With the help of dedicated staff and volunteers, our little Tigers had a blast hunting for eggs while practicing their counting and identifying colors. It was a beautiful day filled with laughter and excitement!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this tradition a success once again. Let's keep the spirit of community alive and thriving!
Tiger Football Team Lends a Hand!
We're excited to shine a spotlight on our incredible Tiger football team as they recently lent a helping hand at the James Memorial Public Library. Their dedication to service not only strengthens our community bonds but also embodies the essence of teamwork and selflessness we hold dear.
By pitching in to set up for the upcoming Friends of the Library Book Sale, our football team showcased their empathy and commitment to making a difference. Their enthusiasm uplifts us all and serves as a shining example of the positive impact we can achieve when we come together for a common cause.

With her guidance, they're honing their skills in these timeless crafts, weaving threads of creativity into beautiful works of art. It's inspiring to see our Tigers embracing artistic expression and exploring new avenues of creativity!

Celebrating Harmony Across Communities!
Check out the incredible collaboration between St. James R-1 School District and Salem R80 School District! On March 11th, a Combined Concert was held at the St. James Performing arts Center. It was a true testament to the power of music to unite us all.
Under the leadership of our dedicated educators, Cassie Rice from Palen Music, Derek Limback, and Roger Payne from St. James, along with Meg Swords and Gannon Craig from Salem, and student-teacher, Alyssa Harry, our students showcased their talents and passion for music.
Together, we're not just playing notes; we're fostering connections, building friendships, and spreading joy through music. Thank you to everyone who made this collaboration possible!
