Under Construction
Our library and tech teams have moved (see update below) in order for construction to begin on the remodel of the school interior. When staff and students return to school on Monday, they will see floor protection in place from the library to the loading dock. Demolition will have started in the library, and contractors will be working in the building Monday through Thursday, from 6PM to 4AM.
Writing SOL
All students currently taking English 11 or AP English Language and Composition are required to take this two-part SOL test. It will take place over two days, March 6th and 7th starting at 9:30am (some students will test on March 11th and 12th). Remember to bring your fully charged, school issued Chromebook on the test days. If you have any questions, please contact your English teacher or our testing coordinator, Mark Ziminsky (mark.ziminsky@lcps.org).
Credit Recovery
Please remind your students of the importance of completing quarter 2/semester 1 credit recovery work as soon as possible so they can gain the knowledge they've not yet mastered and not get too behind in quarter 3. Additionally, please be reminded that students that are referred for credit recovery during the year and do not complete it are not eligible for end-of-year recovery opportunities.
Library Update
Library and Technology Services are all moved into our new temporary homes and are ready to welcome everyone!
2604: Mr. Horvath is available for technology coaching and training for staff and students. He also has a small digital content studio available for green screen video recording, podcasting, etc.
1315: Tech Support for students is generally available from 8:45 am – 3:45 pm. Students who need assistance should make an eHallpass to Tech Support.
1313: The Library is open from 8:45 am to 4:18 pm. Library passes will shut off at 4:00 pm, as usual. Students who need to check out a book or print can do so with a quick pass. If students would like to visit the library for an extended period for research or study, they can do so by requesting a Library Work Pass appointment in eHallpass. They need to do so in advance of their study hall and receive confirmation of their appointment from library staff because seating is very limited. Lunch passes will not be available until the new library opens in the fall. Printers are available in 1313. Staff and students can print to Library B/W and Library Color 1. Please do not print to Library Color 2 as it is not available at this time.
Tech update re: A.I.
Although LCPS currently blocks generative artificial intelligence (A.I.) on LCPS-provided devices and applications, A.I.seems to be everywhere else now. This powerful technology can have many benefits, but it also presents challenges. In addition to the mini lessons that students are receiving in advisory this month, we encourage you to discuss A.I. with your teenager. The companion video and article linked below have tips to help you get the conversation started.

For SENIORS and their parents -- If you are college bound or planning to attend Northern Virginia Community College or any trade school, you will be REQUIRED to complete the FAFSA.
The FAFSA opens on December 31, 2023. Since the FAFSA is opening so late this year due to revisions, you should try to complete the form within the first two weeks of January (not required, but strongly encouraged). Your student will not receive a Financial Aid Package from whatever school they get admitted to until the FAFSA has been submitted.

Assist in planning PTSA-sponsored events, including organizing student volunteers and encouraging participation from fellow students.
